Walking Your Talk ©

When you put patterns into your life to live your beliefs, they become part of you, part of who you are and what you are. Many people talk the talk of being a spiritual being. Some put their beliefs into practice once a week, or only when they’re conducting rituals. Many forget that walking a spiritual path means walking it every moment of your life. It’s not enough to give it lip service to impress your friends, or give yourself a false sense of “living right”. It means “Walking Your Talk”.

We do a lot of talking around here about the Divine, working with the GreatSpirits, God or a Goddess, but how often do you remember that these terms are not restricted to your spiritual practices, but rather part of your very being and life? Here in this article we’re going to talk about the Divine in a more practical sense of how you and the Divine are connected. How you practice your beliefs on a daily basis and why this is important for any spiritual being. Continue reading

The Bare Minimum Basics of Numerology

The Universal Language of Numbers

Let me say right up front that I’m not a Numerologist. Numbers and I seem to have an interesting ebb and flow relationship. There are many experts who swear by their accuracy and ability to provide insight and information into a variety of aspects not only in your life, but to life, spirit, the Universe and everything.

Wolf NumbersMathematics is the only language shared by all humans regardless of culture, religion, or gender. We all use the same constructs to add up a basket of groceries regardless of country fund be it dollars, yen, rubles or pounds. This type of literacy is called numeracy, which has been the shared language of people throughout history and across continents. It links together people from ancient times, old scholars and medieval merchants to artists, modern astronauts and presidents.

It’s a language that can explain DNA, planetary motion, weather patterns, make a batch of cookies, travel from Montreal to Miami or Boston to Bangkok. And it can even be used to explain the mysteries of the Universe. Is it no wonder then that even ancient scholars placed a great significance on the meaning of numbers and developed methods of foresight using their powerful language.

Numerology is the study of the divine or mystical relationship between a count or measurement and life. It has many systems and traditions and beliefs. Continue reading

Living A Life Of Confidence Or Insecurity

Passionate Debate Or Heated ArgumentHeated Debate

I recently had a conversation with a group of people who became very..um..passionate in their discussion about beliefs. While some defined the discussion as a passionate debate, others more emotional,  defined it as a heated argument. But what caused the difference of opinion and view of the discussion might be saying something about how we view ourselves as individuals. Are we confident about our position in the debate, or insecure?

Debate is a good thing most of the time. It’s an exchange of ideas, a challenge to linear thinking that may cause opposing sides to expand their views. It may even alter a long held perspective, directing it down different avenues of thought that never occurred to an individual before.

I’ve noticed, however, that many times, informal discussions evolve into passionate debates that eventually break down into heated arguments that leave one or both sides of the conversation with hurt feelings, angry emotions and sometimes long standing feuds between individuals.

And this is especially true if the discussions are about one of the three taboo subjects that you don’t discuss with family or at the dinner table: religion, politics or money! Continue reading

Answering eMail From Visitors

Thought For The Day

Get Your Tin Foil Hat

Gortairian Visitors

When someone comes to you and says they’re from the Planet Gortair and they’re excited to visit your planet. Don’t argue with them. Simply respond: Greetings and welcome to Earth. As a duly appointed representative from our planet, I would like to invite you to a tour of one of our finer medical facilities.” It beats wrestling them to the ground. – (thanks to Night Court for that approach).

Answering eMail From Visitors
Anyone who has a blog or website that provides a method for receiving communication is opening a door to some wonderful exchanges of ideas and thoughts. But sometimes, the communications aren’t so kind or in some cases are totally off the wall.

One thing that happens when you run a business or educational website is that you get a lot of emails from people who simply aren’t all there. I’m sure it happens to all types of businesses or educational websites. But I know for sure it happens to sites with a spiritual context. I’ve been building websites since the early days of the internet when only a handful of corporations had a web presence. I was fortunate to work at a corporation that was interested in innovation. Being in IT Research and Development in that corporate career, when this web thing came across my desk I jumped at it. Continue reading

As Above, So Below

The Importance Of Balance

The phrase has come to mean various things to different people, societies and religions. It has evolved on some stages and remained the same on others. But to understand the original concept of As Above, So Below, we need to know where it came from and how it was first used.

Who created the idea and why? How did they implement it and what did it stand for? These questions can help us understand the journey of the concept and perhaps even regain the importance behind the words and how they should still be applied to our lives today.

The History Of Above and Below
In the Pagan and Metaphysical communities, these words are often used and bandied about to show relation between spirit and physical realms. They are reported to have originated from the “Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus”, also know as the tablet of “The Secret of Hermes”. But this is a downsized version of the tablet’s verse. The original phrase stated “That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that which is Above, corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracles of the One Thing”

According to Wikipedia there are several translations of this text, including Arabic, Latin, and even one from Isaac Newton. “The compact and cryptic text was highly regarded by European alchemists as the foundation of their art, in particular of its Hermetic tradition. Interpreting the layers of meanings of the Emerald Tablet, from individual words to the overall meaning, is fraught with possibilities, but certainly Alchemy’s Magnum opus and the ancient, classical, element system are the basis of any sound explanation, as they provide a key to the ideas of earth, fire, sun, moon, etc., common to all the translations.” This elemental approach strives to show the balance in all things or the circles of existence.

Over the centuries, many Occult organizations have put their own spin on “As above, so below”. But it’s not only in these realms of mysticism that the phrase can be found. It’s been accepted into almost every known religion today and is often associated with that religion’s history. All three non-pagan religions have laid claim to the phrase and put their own spin on its meaning as well. New Age and modern Metaphysics also have their claims on the concept and have given it their own interpretations. Continue reading

Writing Your Thesis Or Dissertation

How To Get Started And Organize

Writing Your Thesis or Dissertation

Academic Rewards

As a student of higher education, I’m often asked for help in writing a Master’s Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation. At the end of March I will be discussing this very topic with students of the University of Metaphysics and the University of Sedona. Being a blogger, getting my thoughts down on paper tends to lead to writing an article here on Reflections. So let me share what I’ve learned and what I tell my students who are facing these projects.

Get Your Requirements:
One of the hardest things about starting a writing project is getting motivated when you don’t know where to start. Sometimes the best thing to do is simply put the steps into motion and get ready. Each University system has its own requirements for the format of your thesis or dissertation. Most provide a template or written instructions. So step one, find out what’s required for your institution.

With your instructions in hand, conduct a search online for completed and approved essays from others in your University system. Seeing how someone else “did it” can be a great example for what you need to do. Now I’m not saying plagiarize their work! All you’re doing is looking for how they formatted their essay and what they put in each required section as an example for what you will need to cover. Continue reading

Living Your Passion

Combining Your Spiritual Mission With Your Life’s Work

Find Your PassionSome people think you don’t really understand passion until you reach a certain age in life. Others believe if you are encouraged as a child to follow your dreams, you can discover your passion when you’re still young enough to focus your energy on making it happen. I don’t think it matters what point you are in life, if you have a passion and supportive family and friends, you can find a way to live it.

That might be the biggest key of all. Having the support of family and friends. Too often in our society today, we’re pushed to be successful at any expense. To study hard and work for the best grades in school, to attend the best school, get the best degrees and work at the best companies. Being successful is all to often tied to financial gain instead of having a fulfilling life.

Unfortunately not that many of us, at least here in the States, know how to appreciate what we have and what we’ve worked for long enough to enjoy it. We attain “things” and soon after, we’re pushed to acquire the next thing that we’re told will make us “happy”. It’s a shame that the drive to succeed doesn’t come with the drive to be truly happy and true to yourself. What Is Paganism?

A Basic Description of Paganism & Pagan Metaphysics

PaganismWhat is Paganism? What does Pagan mean? How is Pagan Metaphysics different from Witchcraft? With the growing popularity in Paganism, many people who have never heard the word before, or people who don’t know what it is are looking for some basic understanding and knowledge about the beliefs and practices. Many wonder if it’s a religion or something else. Is it evil or bad? What’s real and what’s made up in Hollywood?

Of course anyone could write an entire book on these subjects. Well, actually I have with Pagan Metaphysics 101, the first book in a series to explain these questions in more detail. But for those who are looking for a short general version for their own understanding, I offer the following brief explanation.

The Word ‘Pagan’
Many beginners confuse the translation of the word pagan with its meaning. Pagan translates to “country dweller”, but that’s not the definition of the word. It’s just the translation. In the old days a country dweller was someone who lived off the land and depended on nature to survive. They were typically practitioners of some form of nature or earth based religion.

Looking Back

Looking Back & Letting Go

Forgiveness is something you do for yourself, not for others. – Unknown
