Confidence vs Arrogance

Confidence 2When Does Ego Become A Problem

What one person views as confidence, another person will view as arrogance. It’s a fine line that doesn’t exist on a set standard or a measuring tape or in the levels on a scale. It’s not a tangible thing that can be measured for everyone to share and compare. Because it’s based on perspective and everyone’s perception is different.

How you see yourself and your abilities will determine where that measuring stick is for you. Let’s give our stick a range of 1 to 10.

If you hold confidence in yourself, and believe in your abilities, your skill and experience than the bar for achieving arrogance will be set pretty high. Let’s put it around a level of 9 on the arrogance chart.

Consequently, if you’re someone who has self doubts in any or your abilities, skill, knowledge or experience, then your bar for achieving arrogance will be set lower. Let’s put that one at level 6 on the arrogance chart.

If you have self doubts, your always questioning your abilities, skill, knowledge or experiences and you’re unsure if you can do something successfully, then you may have serious confidence issues. Let’s put that down at level 3 on our arrogance chart. Continue reading

A Healthy Ego Is Important

Wise Old Wolf

The Wise Old Wolf : A Healthy Ego Allows You To Be You

Is The Ego Bad?

Today I saw one of those inspirational FB images and it brought up a thought that I face every week during counseling. It was titled “Overcoming Your Ego” and listed several steps to accomplish that. From my perspective, the steps were overcoming arrogance, or egotism, not ego and that’s an important difference.

The word “ego” has been used as a metaphysical term to describe the self for centuries. By definition it is:
the “I” or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought. ~ Dictionary.com

A healthy ego, allows you to be who you are as an individual. It also allows you to be you and let’s you respect others for who and what they are as well. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The Star

The Star

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You can shine brightly in the day or night. Don’t leave your best characteristics for the dark where few see it. Be yourself during the day and you’ll be surprised at the positive reaction you receive. You’re worth knowing and many around you would like to get to know you better. So step out of the shadows and let your light shine.

Additional Insight:

Stop hiding behind the computer monitor, cell phone, text messages, twitter, facebook and every other way you communicate in secret. People want to get to know you and the walls you put up during the day keeps them away. It also keeps you secluded from the real you who is dying to get out and shine.

Trying to hide behind the walls does a disservice to you, your talents, knowledge and wisdom. Trying to be what others think you are or expect you to be, does a disservice to your spirit and your mission in this life.

Don’t come across as stand-offish, or arrogant and uppity. Simply be yourself day or night and let others get to know the real you. You can gain friends and influence more people than you think. That’s good for you, good for your social life, good for you career and ultimately good for your spirit.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Seven of Swords –

7 of Swords

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Nurture your search for something better. Have Strength! Don’t give up on yourself or on you plans to implement your dreams and bring more beautiful things into your world. You have at least one person standing behind you, firmly on your side and cheering you on. Lean on them and let their energy boost your efforts to stay focused on YOU! Today is the time to believe in yourself; even when no one else does. Keep hope alive! You CAN do this!

Additional Insight:

Dreaming alone will not get the job done. You must put practical action into place and just “Do it”! Don’t let the criticism, angst and anger of others pull you down and destroy the confidence you have in your idea. This is your life and your dream; not theirs. They don’t have to walk in your shoes or deal with the challenges or celebrate the successes for that matter.

Move the nay-sayers aside, put on blinders and stay focused on YOUR path. All that energy you’re putting out for someone else is taking you off your goal to greater fulfillment and success. Even if their road seems “imperative”; it’s nothing more than a diversion from the bigger picture.

Stay focused and committed to your goals. Let your supporters remind you of what’s really important. Allow their enthusiasm to push you along to your dream. Let them be the extra inspiration and additional strength needed to propel you forward and keep your focus on the prize. They’re willing to take the chance, believe in you and make the sacrifices. Are you willing to do the same?

Believe in yourself! Focus and implement your plan. Just Do It!

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing – The Priest

The Priest

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Your presence brings healing to others. When you allow your spiritual perspective to guide your steps and reactions, you provide inspiration to others in need. Living by example goes along way to getting your message across, in business, in personal affairs and on your spiritual path. Take pride in the positive changes you’ve made in your life, but don’t become prideful. Take a deep breath of confidence as you walk onto a new road, but breath out arrogance. Allow your humility to speak for your actions, and though it maybe hard to do sometimes, it really is ok to take a compliment and say thank you without making a joke out of the praise first.

Additional Insight:

By rising above the drama/traumas of the mundane, you can view the world around you through spiritual perspectives. Doing this allows you to see the reasons behind events, why things have occurred the way they have and what lessons are being shared. There’s no reason to respond with knee jerk reactions and add to the drama that is only meant to manipulate you and those around you.

Responding with calmness keeps the power of battle on your side. It allows you to think things through with intelligence, instead of the expected emotion and planned response your adversaries are looking for. It also provides inspiration to those around you who are looking for direction, a leader or someone to emulate in hopes of making their lives better. When you practice what you preach, you are that inspiration. But don’t let the admiration go to your head. There’s a fine line between humility and ego.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The Magician

The Magician

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Use all your tools of the trade to their fullest and you’ll be able to pull the right card out of thin air. Allow your talents to shine, and your confidence to shed light on the deception others are trying to put forth as fact. You’ll rule the day and gain both pride and self-reliance at the same time.

Additional Information:

While others are pretending to have a solution, or claim the work of others as their own, you have the skill to pull the solution out of thin air. Don’t let the deception of others shake your confidence. Use all the tools at your disposal and you’ll clearly see what to do and more importantly, how to do it with skill. Believe in yourself. You know this stuff! You can do it!

Humility & Confidence

What Ego Can Teach You

Dalai Lama on Piers Morgan Tonight April 25, 2012:
“I describe myself as a simple Buddhist monk. No more, no less. And I am one of the seven billion human being. Basically we are the same… your emotion, my emotion, your mind, my mind.., same physical. So I always look [at it] that way. We are the same.”

Believe In Yourself

What is a healthy ego? Today when someone mentions the ego it’s usually in a negative connotation. It is the “I” or self of any person. It is the “I” person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought. “I” think, therefore “I” am. It is the self-esteem and inner confidence of “me”.

A healthy ego doesn’t need to be right all the time. One can be a confident person and accept the idea that they don’t know everything, but they’re willing to explore what they don’t know. They accept that others have differing views and they’re willing to  learn about those views without worry or fear of losing what they believe. They are able to look at new information and data, research it, confirm or deny it and merge it into their own perspectives as appropriate, to broadening their understanding of the world, their spirit within and the Divine Universe around them.  Continue reading

Retrogrades : Venus & Mercury

Venus 15 May 2012 to 27 Jun 2012

Venus Love

Venus Love

This week Venus moved into its retrograde state. It’s affects will influence our emotions until the end of June.

How Retrogrades Impact Our Lives
Sometimes when we look out into space, other planets appear to be traveling backwards through the sky. Although planets are always moving forward, an optical illusion throughout the year causes the planets to appear to be traveling backwards. We call this motion a retrograde.

From an astrological perspective, these optical illusions impact the flow of energy here on Earth. Thus each planetary retrograde affects us as individuals and as a global society. How they affect us depends on the energy of the planet and it’s impact in the astrological charts. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Knave of Cups –

Knave Of Cups

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You can sit pretty today. Relax and enjoy the explosion of your garden as it springs up in abundance. Good news from across the water will come with blessings of success and achievement. So sit back and smile. You’ve worked for it. But don’t forget the little things on your plate today that still need to be done.

Additional Insight:

Remember last year in the fall when you worked so hard to prepare you garden for spring planting? Remember all the work you did earlier this spring to plant your new seeds and nurture your dreams, ambitions and new plans for the year? Take a moment today to look at how far you’ve come. Look over ALL the little successes you’ve had and all the hard work you’ve done to set the foundation for everything in your life to move forward for the better. You’ve come a long way baby – and if you take a little time to notice, things are not only changing, they’re changing for the better! Enjoy it and for today you can sit with pride and confidence in the work you’ve done and blossoms that are opening in your world!

Living A Life Of Confidence Or Insecurity

Passionate Debate Or Heated ArgumentHeated Debate

I recently had a conversation with a group of people who became very..um..passionate in their discussion about beliefs. While some defined the discussion as a passionate debate, others more emotional,  defined it as a heated argument. But what caused the difference of opinion and view of the discussion might be saying something about how we view ourselves as individuals. Are we confident about our position in the debate, or insecure?

Debate is a good thing most of the time. It’s an exchange of ideas, a challenge to linear thinking that may cause opposing sides to expand their views. It may even alter a long held perspective, directing it down different avenues of thought that never occurred to an individual before.

I’ve noticed, however, that many times, informal discussions evolve into passionate debates that eventually break down into heated arguments that leave one or both sides of the conversation with hurt feelings, angry emotions and sometimes long standing feuds between individuals.

And this is especially true if the discussions are about one of the three taboo subjects that you don’t discuss with family or at the dinner table: religion, politics or money! Continue reading
