Sunday Homily: Look In A Mirror

Self Reflection

What you don’t like about someone else,
Look In A Mirror.

What Encounters Teach Us

Everyone one of us has had moments during a week, or in a single day when we feel like we’re wearing a sign around our neck that says “Piss me off”. Comments from complete strangers that push a button and cause us to feel hurt, attacked or self-conscious about something. And it could be about anything, even things that don’t even make sense later on.

Sometimes we say wave a hand and tell ourselves we’re being overly sensitive. Sometimes we actually let the comments get under our skin and truly get angry. Other times we pretend we didn’t hear the comment, ignore it, but play it over and over in our head.

As one of my very wise Shamanistic teachers once told me “It’s not all about you. You’re learning to be a Shaman, stop crying about your little hurt feelings and use your head and your heart to help those who are coming to you and screaming for compassion”. Yeah I didn’t like that comment much when he said it to me, but I’ve come to understand what he meant.

I’ve also learned that this perspective isn’t only for the “ministers” in the world. It’s for everyone walking a spiritual path. And maybe even those who aren’t. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Knight of Cups

Knight Of Cups

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You’re not the expert yet, you still have some learning to do. You can share your knowledge and lead the way, but don’t let it go to your head. Humility will serve you well today, so don’t forget to give credit where credit is due. And don’t be afraid to say “I don’t know, but I can find out”. Your honesty will be refreshing and admired.

Additional Insight:

You’re never too old or too lofty to learn. No one knows it all. In fact those who are the “experts” know there is much more they don’t know and have yet to discover.

The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know and the more questions you have. So there’s no reason to be arrogant or lofty or to look down on others who are new to their path of understanding and knowledge. You’re also not the only one who knows things. So be open to learning from others. Even from those who are just beginning their search for knowledge and understanding.

Being humble allows you to share what you know, without feeling a need to “prove” what you know. It means not feeling as though you need to impress others, because you already know who you are and what you know.

One of my most favorite sayings is “a teacher doesn’t teach, until the student is ready to ask the question”. Wait until your asked and then share your knowledge. But if you’re asked and you don’t know the answer, don’t try to bluff your way through it. Be honest, share what you do know about the topic, but admit what you don’t know. And make sure you add where you would go to find the answer and learn more about the subject.

Sometimes showing that you’re resourceful and able to enhance what you already know goes much farther to impressing and influencing people. It can also show a belief in yourself, a confidence that allows you to be an asset, not simply a body that fills a seat.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Four of Swords – Inverted

Four of Swords - Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Stop feeding the conflict within yourself and find your inner compassion. Packing your day with lots of little things to keep you from thinking about you isn’t helping. It’s running away from the real issue. You’re so busy doing everything for everyone else, that you’re not loving yourself enough to see what you really need. Stop it. Look in the mirror and tell yourself I Love You and You do deserve better.

Additional Insight:

When we constantly put everything we have on the line, our emotions are going to get stepped on. It’s not the fault of others who stumble over the raw nerves we put out there. Stop looking to blame or point the fingers at those who crossed the line. Look at how you yourself are treating you.

Constantly taking on new things for others at our own expense is not noble. It’s not going to get you farther up on the list for entry into heaven. What it is going to do is wear you down, take your time away from the things in your life that matter most and put you in a position of internal conflict. You’re respecting everyone and everything else, but yourself. One thing that does matter the most.

It’s time to stop the running and deal with your emotions. Whither it’s a sense of loss, some delusion that you’re not good enough or that you don’t deserve the permanent or sustained happiness you seek. It’s time to stop the self negative talk and self loathing. Stop putting yourself down or saying “I don’t see why I can’t, others can”. The self punishment isn’t going to help you. Stop it!

As long as you’re trying to sell one thing, but internally degrading the product, you’ll continue the vicious cycle of energy that fails to move forward.

Stop trying to improve your value or self-worth by sacrifice. Others can see exactly what you’re doing and some have tried to tell you.  Love yourself, hold respect for yourself, believe in yourself and you will find your self-worth is already pretty high on the mark. You are worth the effort. You’re beautiful, smart, capable and you have the inner strength to overcome and attain your dreams.

YOU CAN! You are worth the effort. You will grab the brass ring. You are loved! You deserve a supportive and caring relationship. You are entitled to the happiness you seek! You can do this!! You are the perfect implementation of Divine Creation for this expression of your life! You are part of the greater Divinity of the Universe and now is the time for you to rise up and believe it!

Mother Nature’s Waters

snowwolfCollecting & Using Water For Rituals

Practitioners of pagan paths have long been associated with and connected to nature and all its elements. Using natures energy to empower workings and promote their connection to spirit, can be found on every continent throughout history.

When the world relied heavily on the swing of Nature’s spirit, rain and snow were honored components of every day life. Crops needed the right amount of rain to flourish. Winter needed the right amount of snow to maintain water supply. That hasn’t changed over the ages. But as societies became more urban, the focus on Nature’s energy and our connection to it has faded.

Today people notice the extremes of weather and pay little attention to its every day impacts. Unless you’re a farmer, or have your own garden in your backyard, you may not give the rain a second thought. But if you’re pagan and look for the energy in Nature’s movements through our world, you know it can be both an omen and a blessing. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The Emperor

The Emperor

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You’re the boss who holds the bag. It’s your responsibility to guard it and ensure it’s filled with the tools and assets to care for your kingdom. Don’t blame others if you squander what you have. Take responsibility for your own fortune and walk forward with a steady focus. Avoid the quick rich schemes that only serve those who are working the con at your expense. Today is not the day to sign on the dotted line.

Additional Insight:

Be cautious this week of others trying to “get you something for nothing”, they’re only in it for themselves. So if it sounds like a great deal or a good opportunity, make sure you’re reading the fine print. Do your research before giving anyone a check.

There is deception swirling around today, from those who want what they think you have. Don’t give out too much information and guard both your assets and your trust well. Your friendship may not cost you anything today, but guilt by association may take away all you’ve worked for later on.

Remember, the first person you should freely give respect to is yourself. Then you can give respect to someone else. Respect the position, but the person who sits in its seat must earn your respect. They are no better than you, simply because they hold a certain office or position. They put their pants on the same way you do. Their title, nor their financial success or authority make them better than you. Don’t let their position scare you, threaten you, or talk down to you.

We are all human and all equal regardless of where we are, who we are or what we are. Walk through today with kindness  and compassion. But remember to be cautious over those who want to befriend your kingdom because of your assets, talents and wallet.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Death – Inverted

Death Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

A chapter has come to an end and the transition to something new is underway. Let the shadows of the past fall away and leave them behind you. Now is the time to search within and find the spiritual path that you have been nurturing beneath the surface in hiding.

Additional Insight:

The one and only constant in life is that things change. But you control how they transition and what they change into. If you carry the past on your shoulders, you will doom yourself to repeat the patterns you’ve already struggled through.

Take time to focus on putting the past to rest and mourn it’s passing. You no longer need to hold on to the emotions, struggles or battles that have already been fought and fallen long ago. Don’t hold onto that energy or you will pull more of the same into your life.

Change may not be easy, but most wish things would change and help them out of the rut. The only way this can occur is if you fully let go of the negative patterns and allow yourself to accept the transitions forward. You control your destiny. Your fate really is what you make of it today.

Don’t simply talk the good talk. Time to start practicing what you preach and living up to your speech. Drop the hypocrisy and start Walking Your Talk ©!
