Many years ago when I was a student of my favorite teacher, a Shaman named Roger, I was having an unusually bad day.
He asked me why I was allowing the hate and jealousy of others control my emotions and my day? To be honest I didn’t know what to reply to that question. They made me mad, they hurt my feelings. He said “No they didn’t. You decided all on your own to listen to their words and you made the choice how you were going to feel. A deep and heart-felt Thank You to all the Men, Women and Soldier Animals of our Armed Services, living and in spirit! Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. All gave some, some gave all. Many blessings to all our soldiers, their families and friends.

Fallen But Not Forgotten
This weekend is a reminder of the sacrifices that have been made for freedom. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union Soldiers. The south too had its day of Decoration, but the date of celebration varied through out each region of the nation.
On June 28, 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Holidays Bill, which moved four holidays, including Memorial Day, from their traditional dates to a specified Monday in order to create a convenient three-day weekend. The change moved Memorial Day from its traditional May 30th date to the last Monday in May. The law took effect at the federal level in 1971.
Blessings On this Memorial Day Weekend everyone. Please have a safe and relaxing extended weekend! And spend time remembering what this weekend is really all about.
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Celebrate by leaving a small plate of fresh fruit, nuts and sweet treats in your yard or garden for your faery friends.
Right about sunset, read them a poem, a story or tell them a tale from your imagination. You can even tell them a dream you’ve had about them.
Thank them for helping you in your garden, yard or even bringing you some magikal smiles into your life each and every day. They’ll appreciate the entertainment and the gratitude. My partner and I have both lost our Dads. We both believe in life after death, talking to spirit and that our dads do visit us. This week we both have felt my Dad around and that makes this fathers day a little more meaningful.
So for all the Dads, whither they’re still here with us or they’re only with us in spirit, I offer these words. A poem I’ve always loved and says it all.
What Makes a Dad
The GreatSpirits took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle’s flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then the GreatSpirits combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, And knew the masterpiece was complete, And this was called … My Dad.
We all go through our days taking little things for granted. It’s not unusual, it’s not selfish, it’s not necessarily a bad thing either.
Most people don’t notice how fortunate they are until something breaks or needs to be replaced. If you’re blessed, you simply add an errand to your week and go pick up whatever it was that broke. But not everyone has that luxury. And it’s when you take that for granted, that you may need to be reminded of how blessed you really are.
For some people the toaster that broke yesterday can’t be replaced. There’s no such thing as having an extra $20 to pick up a new cheap toaster at the local discount store. Even that $5 toaster at the local Good Will store is out of reach. That $5 maybe all they have in the world right now, and it’s needed for milk and bread to feed their child. There is no such thing as an “extra” anything to waste on something they don’t absolutely need.
It’s amazing how many times I hear about conversations like this text message on the right. It seems when someone is struggling through every day life, even those around them don’t truly understand what they’re going through. Until they talk about little things that they take for granted.
