Tonight at Sunset marks the beginning of a Pagan Metaphysical Sabbat (holiday) called Beltaine. By the Solar Calendar, the holiday is celebrated on May 1st. But by the Lunar Calendar it’s honored on May 6th. Many modern pagans prefer celebrating the holiday by the lunar calendar as this was probably more accurate to the original festivals of the ancient pagans. In some circles, the Sabbat is honored through out the week beginning on May 1st and ending at sunset on May 7th.

The Sabbat was practiced throughout the Celtic lands. Bel is well known from Italy (Cis-Alpine Gaul), Gaul,  Britain, Ireland and into northern Spain. Gaul was a region of Western Europe during the Iron Age and Roman era, encompassing present day France, Luxembourg and Belgium, most of Switzerland, the western part of Northern Italy, as well as the parts of the Netherlands and Germany on the left bank of the Rhine. The Gauls were the speakers of the Gaulish language (an early variety of Celtic) native to Gaul. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Eight of Cups

Eight of Cups

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Allow your support system to hold you up today. The despair can be overwhelming and the Divine knows you’re feeling exhausted, but don’t give up. You are loved and there are many who care about your well being. Allow them to help, even if the only thing they can do is hold your hand. The compassion will help you feel better and renew your strength to fight another day.

Additional Insight:

These challenges couldn’t have come at a worse time. Just when things seem to have turned around and you made it two steps ahead, you get kicked in the teeth and knocked backward three steps to start all over again.

It’s very important to remember that what’s going on is not because of something you did, or didn’t do. These circumstances are bigger than you and are being manipulated by forces outside your control. In some cases, others are not ready for you to implement your next steps and you’re being held up. In other cases, those in control are playing games with the world for their own greed and impacting everyone else without care.

Don’t give up on you! Don’t give up your plans you’ve worked so hard on. You will get through this with creativity and support from those around you. While you may feel insecure, or feel that you’ve become a burden and you’re reluctant to ask for help; remember things will not always be like this. You will be able to repay the kindness and support you receive three fold. You’ve gotten through so much already. Stand strong and you will get through the next 3 weeks as well.

Sunday’s Homily: Getting Started On Your Spiritual Path

Starting Your Own Spiritual Journey

Your Spiritual journeyMany people feel overwhelmed and inundated with so much information on the bookshelves and online. It’s hard to know which way to go or where to start your own spiritual journey. Getting started isn’t as hard as you might think, and there are many places to begin for accurate and safe information. Here is my suggestion and a little information for those with an interest and desire to begin their spiritual journey.

To start the search into your own spiritual interests, define what you currently believe. Whither you’re interested in Pagan Metaphysics or some other spiritual path, you should have an idea of what you believe now. Putting your beliefs into writing instead of just talking about them, helps you define the connection between your beliefs, understand what you believe, and identify what you might not understand or where there are gaps in your beliefs. Learn more about Defining Your Beliefs.

Next, do your own research. Read everything! The more you read, the more you’ll be able to distinguish what is good source material from what is not. Look for material that cite the sources of their information. Continue reading

Healing Through Affirmation & Action

What You Think, Creates How You Feel

Healing Through Compassion & AffirmationAs you may know, our own thought patterns affect the health of our body and mind. Each emotional thought pattern is really an underlying “cause” of a physical illness or characteristic about yourself that you don’t like.  From migraines to low self esteem we create thought patterns in our conscious and subconscious minds that affect how we act and react to situations in our lives.

Over time, those negative thoughts can affect our physical medical conditions if left unattended. In other words, our psychological thought patterns often progress into physical illness or ailments. The longer we ignore the thought pattern, the more severe the ailment can become.

For instance, if you have a recurring issue with your right wrist, you can look at the ailment and decipher the underlying mental issue. Ask yourself what does this area of my body do for me physically? The wrist allows you to be flexible with holding or handling things. So the general underlying message for this ailment is that you’re not being flexible in the way you’re handling a situation in your life. Continue reading

Relax, the barriers before you are not as big as you’re making them out to be. There’s no need to stress over climbing the fence when all you need to do is step over it. You haven’t done anything wrong, you’re not being punished. Things are being held up in order to manifest goals you set last fall. Don’t push to quickly or you could alter your path negatively.

Additional Insight:

Yes there are issues to be resolved that are holding back your success. But while it’s time to be cautious and conserve, don’t make this challenge out to be more than it actually is. It’s not a set back, it’s not because you did something too soon or that you shouldn’t have. In fact, the challenge is being created by forces outside your control. Be patient! Be calm! And you’ll get through the next few weeks with relative ease. You did nothing wrong! You will be ok!

The Seven Point Guide to Self Fulfillment

Wisdom From The Dalai Lama

14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso

Last night (4/25/2012) on Piers Morgan Tonight, Piers interviewed the Dalai Lama. Just because I’m pagan doesn’t mean I can’t learn from and appreciate teachings and wisdom from those of other faiths. And everyone can learn much from the Dalai Lama. It was an excellent and fascinating interview, perhaps the best interview of the Dalai Lama I’ve ever seen.

His honesty is so refreshing in this time of “spin” and out right lies from political leaders, celebrities, and yes even from the spiritual community itself. His optimism is inspiring and by itself can give one hope for a better world. What struck me the most was that he isn’t so optimistic as to be delusional about what can be attainable. He’s much more of a realist than I had ever thought someone in his position could be. And that impressed the heck out of me!

At the end of the show, Piers tells his viewers that here in America we spend $11 billion on the self help and self improvement industry. We spend so much time looking outside ourselves to find happiness, that we forget to look within our own selves, in our actions and our practices. But the Dalai Lama has a cheaper way of finding happiness.

Here are the Dalai Lama’s words of wisdom in his 7 Point Guide to Self Fulfillment:  Continue reading

Four of Pentacles - Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Little things keep pecking away at your resources. Don’t bury your head in despair, you have reserves in the pantry to get you though. And help is around the corner. Don’t blow things out of proportion and make matters worse. Conserve, rest, relax and you’ll slide through the next four weeks without too much difficulty.

Additional Insight:

Now is not the time to go on a spending spree. Conserve your resources and be cautious with what you do and what you need vs what you want. Bad times are not coming back, but this bump in the road can cause significant strife if you allow it too. So be strong, you’ve gotten through worse things before. You’re going to be ok!
