The Year Long Affirmation

If you’ve followed my blog for more than a year, you probably know I don’t make New Years Resolutions. Who keeps those self “promises” anyway? I’ve always thought of resolutions as goals that set you up to fail. Not as a positive way to start a new year.

My first motto was designed to do nothing more than get me through days of frustration at work.  The experience proved to me, that the Motto idea was so much better than a Resolution. Because it’s there when you need it most.

I’m big on affirmations and that’s basically what the Annual Motto is. A yearly affirmation that’s there when you need to remind yourself that being Mindful of your thoughts will do you more good than not.

How you feel and think at a given moment, sets up your day, week, month, year and even your life. So why not help your thought process stay positive, when those tough situations come up during the year. This is the foundation of Mindfulness and it’s the easiest way to turn your thoughts around, when you’re facing challenges. Continue reading

Each motto has been exactly what I needed to make it to the next New Years Celebration. And I’m happy to share these annual affirmations with you. I hope they give you strength when you need it the most, and help you to take the next step when you feel like sitting down and giving up. Continue reading

Stop Mixing Mysticism with Science!

Merlin's Blood Moon by Springwolf 🐾

Merlin’s Blood Moon by Springwolf 🐾

NO, IT IS NOT A FULL BLUE BLOOD MOON!

I wish these mainstream media people would stop mixing mysticism with science. If you’re going to mix spiritual mysticism with scientific explanation, you should at least get the mysticism part right.

Early Pagans coined the phrase “Blood Moon” to signify the full moon phases of the Fall Harvest. Every full moon during the harvest season was once known as the Blood Moon and it has nothing to do with the color of the Moon.

Over time, that monthly harvest celebration evolved to become the Full Moon nearest the Autumn Equinox or the first full moon of the autumn harvest, also known as the Harvest Moon. For most Pagans, that Full Harvest Moon occurs in September or October, if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere. Continue reading

2018 New Year Full Moon & Blue Moon

January 1st Full Moon

Are you ready for the Full Moon on January 1st? It’s the Winter Wolf Moon in my Clan. And because the moon is still so close to Earth in its Perigee during December 2017, a lot of folks are also calling this coming full moon the Supermoon for 2018.

Supermoons aren’t anything extra special in the world of science. It’s just a commercial name for when the Moon is closest to Earth during its regular orbit around the planet. Because the Moon is closer to Earth in its perigee, it appears to be bigger than what we’re used to seeing during any other full moon through the year.

For Pagans, these closer moons can mean GrandMother Moon is coming in close to look in on the Children of Mother Earth. Esbat rituals (special observances for the phases of the moon) may give special honor to the Old Crone aspect of the Triple Goddess.

January Blue Moon

To top it off, because the full moon is occurring so early in the month, it allows us to squeeze in a 2nd full moon for this month. A Blue Moon, which graces our presence on January 31st, 2018 at 8:27am.

Many in the media are trying to promote this Blue Moon as a “Blood Moon”. It’s not! A Blood Moon is a very specific time of the year for Pagans. And since the name comes from a Pagan observance, I think we get to say when it occurs.  They need to Stop Mixing Mysticism with Science –  No it’s not a Blood Moon.

There are several articles here on my blog that talk more in-depth about these special phases of the Moon that you might be interested in.

The Year Long Affirmation

Many years ago I stopped making New Years Resolutions. I was never able to stick to them and keep them going the year through. Not being able to keep up with such a lofty goal was frustrating. To say the least. And left me feeling defeated, not empowered.

I began seeing Resolutions as goals that set me up to Fail. What a negative and self-defeating concept. Setting yourself up to fail and feeling bad about not carrying through on the promise you made to yourself. How is this helpful? So I stopped making Resolutions and started making Mottoes that I could say when things got tough or when I needed a boost in my thinking!

My first motto was designed to do nothing more than get me through a day of frustration and anger. In 2001 I didn’t like my Boss, which meant I didn’t like my job either. But my Motto got me through those exceptionally rough days “I don’t care, I get paid.” And it worked. Pretty well actually. The group of people I managed at the time, took up my practice and new motto as well. Each time we hit a wall of frustration, someone would recite the motto and everyone would relax a little bit. I began seeing Resolutions as Affirmations to Fail. What a negative and self-defeating concept. Setting yourself up to fail and feeling bad about not carrying through on the promise you made to yourself. How is this helpful? Well, for me it wasn’t helpful at all. So I stopped making Resolutions!

Instead I worked on creating a motto to carry me through the rough patches of the year. The harder the challenge, the more blunt the Motto was. Especially in the beginning of my new practice.

My first motto was designed to do nothing more than get me through a day of frustration and anger. In 2001 I didn’t like my Boss at the time, which meant I didn’t like my job either. Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Four of Swords

Four of Swords

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Allow yourself to be cradled in love and compassion. Rest and release the stress that has overwhelmed you and taken the color of joy out of your life. You are not alone, you will always be held by your inner spirit and the Divine in your life. So while it may seem like everything has come crashing in, you will survive and your kingdom will find brightness again.

Additional Insight:

There are many ways to release stress from your life. Meditation, exercise, even giving yourself permission to have a good cry can help you let go of all that you’ve held inside. The only real constant in the Divine Universe is change. So while things are hard today, and the stress of loss or struggle seems to hang over your head, know it will not last forever.

Don’t allow your fear and anxiety to get the best of you now. Don’t lose faith in your beliefs, or in yourself. Rather now is the time to fall back on what you believe and to remember you are never alone in your fight to survive.

Start your day with a smile, even though it maybe hard and a simply affirmation to remind you that you can and will get through this!

I can because I am one with the Divine Universe
I choose to live with joy in the here and now.
I face each and every day with empowerment and love.
And So It Is.

Healing The Self

What You Think, Creates How You Feel

Healing Through Compassion & AffirmationAs you may know, our own thought patterns affect the health of our body and mind. Each emotional thought pattern is really an underlying “cause” of a physical illness or characteristic about yourself that you don’t like.  From migraines to low self esteem we create thought patterns in our conscious and subconscious minds that affect how we act and react to situations in our lives.

Over time, those negative thoughts can affect our physical medical conditions if left unattended. In other words, our psychological thought patterns often progress into physical illness or ailments. The longer we ignore the thought pattern, the more severe the ailment can become.

For instance, if you have a recurring issue with your right wrist, you can look at the ailment and decipher the underlying mental issue. Ask yourself what does this area of my body do for me physically? The wrist allows you to be flexible with holding or handling things. So the general underlying message for this ailment is that you’re not being flexible in the way you’re handling a situation in your life. Continue reading
