Turn The Frown Upside Down

“Happy Wolf” – Photographer Unknown

Laughter Is The Best Medicine

In times of stress and anxiety it’s easy for people to become overwhelmed with their own emotions of fear or sadness. Worry may dominate your thoughts from morning to night. Fear can take hold and change your focus from what you want to accomplish in a day, to pulling in more fear and anxiety. It becomes a snowball that grows and grows until it seems to overwhelm everything in your life.

We all go through it. We all get caught up in the latest bad news. But sometimes it seems there’s nothing good to see anymore and everything is just getting worse and worse. It’s hard to break that cycle at times, and that’s when we need to ask for help. There’s nothing wrong with talking to someone about that downward spiral of emotions. Try to remember “that feelings are real but they aren’t reality” (Dan Harmon, 2017 – This is a great story reported in the Washington Post about author Dan Harmon’s twitter response to a fan. It’s really worth the read!)

On January 9th, 2014 a message for the Daily Tarot Meditation share some insight into what the average person might do to turn things around. It involves laughter. In a world that seems to be filled with fear, anxiety and angst it might be a good time to remember Life is about Balance. That means we can choose to dwell in despair or we can laugh in the face of adversity as needed. We don’t have to choose to be low and glum allowing the angst of the world around us dominate how we choose to feel. Here is an excerpt from that day 2014 reading. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Knight of Cups

Knight Of Cups

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Stay vigilant, do your duty and keep your eyes peeled. There is much going on today, causing distraction and muddying the waters. Don’t get caught up in the sleight of hand attempts to divert your attention from what’s really important. Doing so could cause you a great many problems on your own door step.

Additional Insight:

While others are in turmoil today, they’re doing everything they can to alter the truth. If you allow yourself to be baited into their fight, you will lose much of what you have gained over the past 6 years. Keep to yourself, and stay in your place. This isn’t a time to bring war to your door.

You only have to worry if the battle enters your domain or the arrows come flying in your direction. Don’t rush out defend your borders. Those “in charge” will reign in the foes and pull them back to where they belong.

It’s a day to be cautious. Keep your opinions to yourself and don’t offer any information unless you are directly asked. The last thing you need is to get into other people’s problems. Especially when you don’t know the full story. You’ll have a hard time telling the difference between what you’ve been told and what has really been going on. Even in the source is your best friend. If you didn’t witness the event with your own eyes, then the proper answer is “I don’t know”. Then let it go at that.

By evening you’ll be back on familiar ground, safe and sound. Don’t ponder on what’s really happening. Like everyone else, you’ll find out soon enough. Just know that you made it through another day unscathed and safe. If the worry is becoming too heavy, then use the evening to look else where to hang your hat. Your domain should be a place of peace and calm. If it’s not, than perhaps it’s time to make some tough changes in your best interest.

The December 2017 Supermoon

"Merlin In The Moon" by Springwolf 🐾

“Merlin In The Moon” by Springwolf 🐾

The Last Full Moon of 2017

According to my “Moon Phase: Pro” app, December’s full moon occurs at 10:47am Sunday December 3rd, 2017 Eastern US time. Thanks to modern science we can pinpoint the exact time of each moon phase. And thanks to the U.S. Naval Observatory’s Astronomical Applications Department and the internet, we don’t need an app to help us find those precise moments.

In centuries past, the folks we like to call the Ancient Pagans, didn’t have the precise tools we have today. They did have their own eyes and their early forms of astronomy to help them track the heavenly bodies in the sky. All around the world they used early methods to mark the important times of what know today as the months and the seasonal changes to honor the spirits and the natural world in their lives.

They may not have understood the concept of perigee within the celestial bodies, giving rise to some wondrous myths and legends. Today we know that Perigee occurs once a year when the moon is at its closest point to Earth during its orbit around the planet. This makes the Moon appear larger from our perspective, than we usually witness. This December full moon should shine 16 percent brighter and 7 percent larger than normal, reports National Geographic. But that’s not as large and bright as the SuperMoon of November 2016, which was the closest perigee in 68 years. The Ancients could see that this special full moon was different from the others and that certainly had influence in how they honored and celebrated GrandMother Moon.

This year, the SuperMoon will be a little extra special in our house as it coincides with someone’s birthday (no not mine). So we’ll be having an extra special observance. Whatever your plans are to honor GrandMother moon, I hope they’re a little extra special for you and yours as we witness the Moon in Perigee.

If you’re new to celebrating the magik of the full moon, this would be a great time to hold your first ritual. Have some fun, do what “feels right” to you. There’s no right or wrong way to express yourself in magik. Take a little time to do some quick reading and get an idea of what a full moon represents in the life of a Pagan and then do your own thing. Oh and of course you don’t have to be Pagan to honor the Moon’s blessings. Anyone can do that.

Here are a few of the articles on Springwolf Reflections that I’ve written about the Moon and what she means to Pagans in general. But keep in mind, correspondences are NEVER set in stone. Where you are in the world, the culture you connect with and even how you personally see the Moon can all have varying influences on your spiritual observances. And that’s as it should be. So don’t be afraid to change things up if you feel drawn to do so.

In addition to the posts here on my blog, you might like to read the articles I’ve written on my original website The Pagan’s Path.

I still get asked at almost every cycle of the Full Moon, why I no longer publish the calendar. I wrote about this in 2014 here on my blog: Moon Phase Calendar – Update.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Judgement – Inverted

Judgement - Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Use your better judgement and don’t make assumptions about those who are tooting their horn. Remember everyone deserves due process. So don’t judge the book by its cover. Give both sides a chance to tell their tale. Then balance the evidence to determine the truth.

Additional Insight:

The rush to judge can have serious consequences to everyone involved in any situation. It’s important today NOT to make knee jerk reactions. Just because someone said something happened, doesn’t mean it happened exactly like they said it did. You can support the courage of others, while withholding judgement pending a serious investigation. Or waiting for others to complete their investigation before accepting rumor and innuendo.

In this hyperbolic climate, people are weaponizing information against their enemies or people they simply don’t like. Some tales are false and those making accusations may have ulterior motives. It’s important to show respect to all sides, no matter how angry an accusation may cause you to feel. But remember the burden of proof is on the side of the accuser.

Still that doesn’t mean every accuser is suspect. Most accusations have a preponderance of proof and truth in them. But you must verify what you’re told and confront a suspect with calm clarity. You’ll gain their confidence to tell the truth or maybe you’ll put them at ease and catch them in a lie. The point is to make an honest attempt to confirm information you’re given as much as possible. Don’t take someone’s word for what they’re saying. Talk to others involved and witnesses who may not realize what they saw or heard when the event happened.

Making sure you can balance the scales will save you unnecessary heartache and unwanted consequences in the long run. It will also help you to hone your instincts and confirm what you’ve known or felt for months. Make sure you’re honest with your own feelings and perspectives too. Make sure your judgement isn’t clouded. Just because you want to believe something awful to be true, that doesn’t mean it is true. Making the wrong decision could have life long consequences. So be cautious today and don’t rush to judgement.

Update:
Within moments of posting today’s card, I received an admonishing message about lecturing on politics. That’s not the message in this card. Though if that’s what you see in the message, this insight might apply to you in that context. The message could apply to anything in your life today. Business, personal or political interests that dominate your day.

As I wrote the message, my sense was the message was about a personal situation in people’s lives. Someone said something about somebody close to you/us and we shouldn’t just believe what is being said on the word of this person alone. Especially if the accusation is at odds with the person we know. At the same time, we cannot allow our judgement to be clouded simply because we don’t want something to be true. Our inner voice will always try to tell us when something isn’t right. But which side of that tale is the lie? Love is blind, while at the same time, what is the motive behind an accusation?

If you read this message and think it applies to politics, or social change than you could be missing a warning that’s much closer to home. So be open and honest with your own inner voice and don’t simply dismiss today’s message as a global commentary on today’s News.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The Hanged Man – Inverted

The Hanged Fae - Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You can jump for joy today. Your optimistic perspective is about to be rewarded. While others seemed to be hanging on for dear life, you made the best of a bad situation. And because you didn’t panic, others will view your actions as a positive performance of leadership. But be careful you don’t gloat!

Additional Insight:

Not everyone handles stress in the same way. Some people already have so much on their plate, that one more issue can break their back. This isn’t really a sign of weakness. Rather that they’ve stood up to so much, they simply can’t handle any more. Show compassion and kindness to these people. There by the grace of the Divine, might go you.

The issue or event you’re being recognized for, may have occurred months ago and you may have already forgotten about it. But those in power have not. They’ve been watching you and they’ve admired your resilience. When the accolades come, be gracious and spread the gratitude to those around you who helped take control and resolve the situation. If you gloat or show arrogance, you could undermine the opportunity being presented to you.

When the excitement calms down by the afternoon, use this moment to get something out of this for you and maybe those who work with you. It’s a rare thing to hold some power and sway. You have a chance to use it for some good. If not for yourself, than for others who need someone watching out for them too. Just don’t stick your neck out too far for someone else. By the evening you’ll have reason to celebrate and jump for joy! So do take some time to smile and rejoice with those who are important to you. You succeeded where others did not and that’s something to be proud of.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Knight of Cups

Knight Of Cups

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Be watchful over your domain today and for the next month. Make sure you know where everything is and what you have. Someone is trying to con you out of what you’ve worked hard to achieve. It’s not a day to be paranoid. Just a good day to take stock and make sure you have your world properly secured.

Additional Insight:

Many people are still struggling and trying to make ends meet. The lack of security can push people to do things they otherwise would never do. For the next few weeks, make sure you lock your car, conceal your packages and keep an eye on your financial accounts.

Even if you don’t take part in the holiday or season festivities. This time of year isn’t only a celebration for Christians, there are many faiths that observe an event during this time of the year. Even Pagans. That makes it a great time for would be robbers and scam artists too.

It may seem like a tedious extra step. But after a few days of monitoring, you’ll fold the extra precautions into your routine and they’ll all seem like old hat. Listen to the advice you hear on the news. Look around your home to ensure your personal domain is locked and secure. Make an effort to pick up packages at the post office or delivery store instead of leaving them on your porch. There’s a lot of little things you can do to protect your holiday season.

But don’t forget to avoid those holiday donation scams too. If you have a little extra to give this season, make sure who you’re giving too is above-board and is doing what they claim. Beyond that you’ll need to keep an eye on your bank account too. Now is the time to get in the habit of monitoring your account on a daily basis for unusual activity. Knowing exactly how much you have can take the stress out of the financial woes, it can keep you on budget, and it can keep you from falling into a trap of credit/debit card theft. Be vigilant.

It may seem like overkill to some, but the knight is reminding us all that not everyone is kind and compassionate during this season of the year. You don’t have to think everyone is out to get you. But a healthy dose of skepticism is worth keeping your own little world safe and secure.  It will be worth it in the end and you’ll feel better about your little domain in the long run.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Seven of Swords

7 of Swords

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Nurture your soul and don’t allow the little nitpicking from others to damping your spirit. Fear, anxiety and sadness often form into attacks upon others. So take a deep breath today and try to find something compassionate and kind to say or do for those nitpickers around you.

Additional Insight:

It’s a day to control your emotions and your responses to others. Don’t give up your “power” and allow someone else to manipulate you just because they’re having a bad day, week, month, life, or whatever. You’re not responsible for their sorrows and you can’t fix things for other people. Especially when they don’t want to fix their issues for themselves.

Sometimes it’s take a little extra effort to ignore the way someone is trying to push our buttons and make us angry. But when we remind ourselves that their attacks are coming from a place of self loathing, it might be easier to deflect the insults. Smile and remind them that you’re sorry they’re having a rough day. But they don’t have the right to take it out on you.

By the late afternoon, the heaviness of the day will feel lighter and brighter. You might even have a chance to get into the spirit of the holiday season. No matter what religion you practice, or what beliefs you hold, this time of year exudes joy and compassion. No reason why you can’t spread some of that energy of kindness as well. You just have to make the decision to enjoy the day and not allow anyone else’s bad mood ruin it for you.
