Sunday Homily: Writing Your Abundance Check

wolfpackA New Moon Ritual

My friend Rev. Lyn Williams sends out a reminder every month on FB to Write Your Abundance Check.

I think many of us could use this, so I’d like to share it with you.  It’s a great way of putting your hopes, faith, dreams or desire for abundance into physical action.

I’m a firm believer that making a wish is great on a spiritual level. Asking for help to make life a little easier can have a great deal of influence in our lives. But only if we put some action behind it.

It reminds me of a story I think I’ve shared here before. But in case I haven’t, let me tell it again.

A man spends his life praying to God to help him win the lottery so he can buy a brand new Cadillac. He prays every day, but alas he never wins and never buys his dream car. When he reaches the Pearly Gates of Heaven he refuses to enter. Peter at the gate sends word to God about the situation. Surprised God comes to the gates and talks to the man asking why he won’t enter into Heaven? The man responds “I prayed to you every day for one thing. It wasn’t a big thing or something I didn’t deserve, I don’t think. But you never answered my prayer.” God smiles at the man and replies “My Son, I heard your prayers and I would have helped you win the lottery and helped you buy your car. But…you at least had to buy a lottery ticket. ~ Unknown

We all have wishes to feel safe and secure in our lives. To be able to pay our bills and care for our family. We may have fantasies about buying a million dollar house or that special expensive sports car. But I think in reality, most people simply want to live life without struggle and to enjoy a few of the finer things life have to offer. Going out to dinner once in a while, taking a vacation for a few days or whatever that special thing is for you.

It’s not going to happen on its own without some form of physical action behind the dream. Creating a plan, working the plan and putting action behind the wish. Even in Christianity there’s a lesson to this type of manifesting energy into reality “God helps those who help themselves.” Along with the prayers we must do something to open the door of opportunity. Even if that means writing a wishful check for a New Moon Ritual.

So get your printer ready, find your favorite ink pen and let’s put some energy into action.

Here’s Rev. Lyn’s Ritual.

TIME TO WRITE YOUR ABUNDANCE CHECKS!

Abundance takes many forms. It shows up as money, love, family, friends, enough food, shelter, blessings, unexpected gifts, even time…like getting an extension so you can get the money to pay a bill, your rent or mortgage!

Every month the Moon cycles into a New Moon. You can use the U.S. Naval Observatory’s Phases of the Moon table to find out when the next New Moon phase occurs. But keep in mind, the data in the output table is listed in Universal Time. To convert the times a given local time, see the U.S. Time Zones explanation or the World Time Zone Map in the Astronomical Information Center.

Make adjustments for the time zone you’re in and write your checks sometime within the next 24 hours. It still seems to work if you do it within 48 hrs of the new moon (because it actually lasts for 2 days), but the first 24 hours are best.

In a Pagan Metaphysical perspective, energy for a particular phase comes into existence 3 days prior to 3 days after the zenith of the phase. You should practice your ritual in the time frame that rings true and feels right to you.

Abundance Check Ritual for the New Moon

Follow these steps to write your Abundance checks within the time frame that feels right for you. I’ve been doing this for a while and there are a few ‘pagany’ things I’ve done that are a little different from Lyn’s original ritual. But I want to share her steps in case you’d like to implement her method. So the steps I’ve changed from the original ritual are listed below.

From a pagan perspective, we would write the check inside our ritual circle. So gather your tools together, including the printed check and a pen. Set your shields, call your guides and helpers, and say your prayer of intent. When you’re ready, write your check with the following process.

  1. For the Date, you can write in “The New Moon”
  2. On your check where it says “Pay to,” write your name.
  3. On the same line where you would fill in a dollar amount write “Paid in full.”
  4. On the next line where you would write out a dollar amount, write “Paid in full.”
[Some say it works better if you don’t add a line to mark out the space in this field.]
  5. You can sign the check from the Divine force in your life.
For instance I write in “The Magik of the Great Spirits” or “The Magikal Nature Faeries”.
  6. DO NOT write a specific dollar amount on the check. (You could be short-changing yourself).
  7. In the Memo section, you might write the intent of your abundance. Are you looking for abundance for financial issues, love, health? Write it out.

Once the check has been written, you have several choices. In Lyn’s original ritual, she suggests putting the check away in a safe place and forgetting about it.

Of course we pagans have to make things complicated. To us, putting it away isn’t ever enough. So consider some of these alternatives.

  • You can store the check in the back of your own checkbook to energize your bank account.
  • Place it in an envelope with other symbols supporting the abundance you’re asking for.
You can use hearts for abundance in love. A crib or baby carriage for getting pregnant, or place a ob description that you’ve applied for in the envelope. Seal it up and mail it to yourself. Or seal it up and place it somewhere in your home that will help energize a space.
  • You can (in a safe place) burn the check and let the energy of the intent rise up into sky where it can be manifest.
  • Roll up the check, seal the roll with a special wax and place it in a special ritual box.
I like these last two, but this one is a favorite. If you have a letter wax candle and stamp, you can use those things to mark the scroll with your special energy. Use a decorative wooden box to keep your scrolls safe and sound on or near your altar. When the box gets full, some people burn the old scrolls, while others bury the entire box in a special place around their house or out in the woods.

Rev. Lyn’s Original Ritual Steps:
In the end, I only changed three steps from Lyn’s ritual.

1. You don’t need to write in a date.
5. On the signature line, sign your check: “The Law of Abundance”
7. Then put the check away in a safe place and forget about it.

Adding to those pagan things, I created my own check to fit my personal connection to Divine Creation. And since we use color in magik spells, I also change the color of the check to green (for American money) on a yellow background (the chakra color of success, in the system I use).  I’m thrilled that she now uses this version of the check in her monthly reminders. Makes me feel like I’ve given something back in exchange for this beautiful ritual.
