Happy Irish Pride Day

Celebrating The Emerald Isle

Today many pagans see March 17th as a day of anger against a Catholic Priest who practiced genocide upon the pagans of Ireland. Much of this angst is over blown and not really based in historical evidence and fact.  But the idea that St. Patrick drove the snakes (pagans) out of Ireland, still exists and brings up passionate displeasure toward the observance of this Priest.

As with all things, this day has evolved and changed in meaning over time. It’s no longer solely celebrating the life of a Catholic Priest who was promoted to Sainthood. It has become much more secular and is celebrated by people in many religions and faiths. Here in the America’s at least, it’s more about Irish Pride than a religious observance.

To learn more, read about Why Pagan’s Don’t Celebrate St. Paddy’s day. And if you’re Pagan and Irish, honor your heritage by donning the green of the Emerald Isle and raising a toast to the ancient Clans of Ireland.

Everyone Loves A Love Story

Insights Behind Love

Back on May 15, 2012 I wrote an article about Soul Mates, Twin Souls & Karmic Relationships. It became the most popular post here on Springwolf Reflections. Until, I wrote about my research concerning The Legend Of The Sun and The Moon in June 2014.

Celebrate the love of your soul mate” and variations of that always pop up around February 14th and Valentines Day. But it’s also a sentiment that people are drawn to when they want to celebrate their love with the one who is most dear to them. The idea however is one that has evolved over time and thanks to the greeting card companies has taken on a different meaning than its spiritual definition.

Tell me the story about how the Sun loved the Moon so much he died every night to let her breathe.” It’s a beautiful line that pulls at the hearts of many to want to learn more. Storytellers and romantics alike want to know the origins of that line and where it comes from. They want to hear or read the whole story and share it with the ones they love. Continue reading

Once again everyone here at Spring’s Haven and Springwolf Reflections would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has sent messages and prayers to Spring during her health battle.

On Monday, January 11th she under went a lengthy surgery. But thankfully it was successful. She has been recovering and gaining strength and this past week she was able to return to some of her normal activities. Yeah!

Big March News:

The Earth Based Spirituality

Paganism & Pagan MetaphysicsI have received a fair number of emails over the past two months asking about the Pagan Earth Based Spirituality. And I’d like to clear up a modern misconception about this.

Paganism of today, especially Pagan Metaphysics is not “earth centered” but rather centered on a larger “cosmic” perspective of life and spirit. This has come about because Pagan Metaphysics strives to grow and broaden its understanding of life and spirit based on new knowledge and discoveries.

Way back when, Earth was the center of the cosmic universe. We know today that this isn’t true. It would be silly to maintain that view today. We grow our views through learning and research, instead of remaining stagnate in the way some other 2000+ year old religious organizations do.  Every thing in life changes. That includes views, beliefs, knowledge and wisdom. They cannot stay the same and refuse to look at how new discoveries evolve old understandings.

This is supported by the idea that Physics and Metaphysics aren’t at odds with each other, but rather depend on each other to understand our physical/spiritual existence. We are bound to expand our knowledge and by doing so, we should grow our understanding and wisdom of our existence. In Paganism, we evolve our understanding to fit what we know now. By doing so, we continue to grow and move toward Divine spiritual enlightenment.

Merry Mabon and Ostara

Apple Tea Time

Apple Tea Time

The Fall and Spring Equinox

Here in the Northern Hemisphere we are stepping into the cool crisp air and explosion of fall colors as the year begins to wane. Our Fall Equinox officially arrives on Wednesday September 23rd at 4:22 am Eastern U.S.

The Equinox rings in Mabon (May-bawn) for Pagans. A holiday that celebrates the harvest season, also known as the Feast of Avalon, the Festival of the Wine and the Festival of the Apple Harvest.  You can learn more about the History of Mabon.

Celebrations often begin at sunset on the night before the official holiday. That would be Tuesday evening. Spiritual observations honor the spirits and energy that assist with the gardens, farms, flocks and herds. Thank Mother Earth for the rain, the fertile ground and Father Sun for the warm rays that promote growth in the fields.

Colors of fall are used for decoration, along with the changing leaves and home-made dishes using the items from the harvest. Pumpkin pie is always a favorite in our house. Along with pecan pie, we are in the south after all.

You can hold a private celebration with an intimate tea party featuring apple tea, apple pie, cinnamon apple bread, cupcakes and more.

Halloween’s 666 Meme

pumpkinwolfPlease Use Your Head

For the past month and increasingly as the seasons change, people are sharing memes on social media linking Halloween to 666 and even Friday the 13th. It simply makes me want to plant my face in my hand and ask what in the world has happened to common sense!

Now one of these memes is meant to be a joke. But I’ve been astounded by some of the emails I’ve gotten asking when Halloween went from Friday the 13th to October 31st? Some people are taking these shared images seriously!

What?! Seriously? Let me clear a few things up!  No one knows when the 1st Halloween occurred. It never had an official start date. So there’s no way to know how many observances there have been. So please forget the 666 crap. It’s not true and it’s nothing more than bigots associating a number to a holiday that never had a relationship in the first place.

Second, Halloween has NEVER been on Friday the 13th. Ever! There’s not that many Friday the 13ths in October to begin with. But the holiday, in all it’s observances has always been on the last day of October. Continue reading
