The Summer Solstice – Time For Faeries

Celebrating Faeries, Wishes and The Good Ole Summertime
By Springwolf, D.D., Ph.D.  🐾

The Summer Solstice rings in the waning year and begins the slow good-bye of the sun as the days become shorter and the darkness returns to the land. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we celebrate the Summer Solstice on June 21st or 22nd in the Southern Hemisphere it falls on December 21st or 22nd.

As the story goes, the Oak King has ruled over the Earth, bringing the Sun to warm the ground so fields could be planted for wheat, barley and gardens can grow. When the solstice arrives, the Holly King wakes from his slumber and challenges the Oak for supremacy in the sky.

Their battles rage through the summer as the Oak King fights to hold on to his love, Mother Earth. The clashes between these Kings are heard through the Thunder drums of summer storms as lightning crackles  from the striking of their swords in bright explosions.

To watch over the land, the Faeries come out at night to protect the children of Mother Earth and their forest homes from the battles that rage on beyond the clouds above. The rabbits, squirrels, birds, trees and flowers are all cared for by the magikal Fae and even you are protected beneath their wings.

If you honor the work of the Fae on the special Summer Solstice night, they may return your kindness by helping to manifest a wish you asked during the Solstice festival. For this is the night the Fae dance by the bonfires and spread their magik across the land beneath the light of Grandmother Moon.

Happy Father’s Day!

TooCute-20140325-05For The Dads We Have & The Ones We’ve Lost

My partner and I have both lost our Dads. We both believe in life after death, talking to spirit and that our dads do visit us. This week we both have felt my Dad around and that makes this fathers day a little more meaningful.

So for all the Dads, whither they’re still here with us or they’re only with us in spirit, I offer these words. A poem I’ve always loved and says it all.

What Makes a Dad

The GreatSpirits took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
fathersdayThe calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then the GreatSpirits combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
And knew the masterpiece was complete,
And this was called  … My Dad.

Sunday Homily: Theology vs. Metaphysics

The Academic Perspectives

The Labels We Use

People today don’t use their words as carefully as they should, or in my view, as much as they used to. Words have specific meanings because we need a shared commonality of perspectives within our speech in order to properly communicate and understand each other.

Today people put their own twist on words to mean what “they” think it should mean and that can distort that common understanding. Wars have begun this way.

That concept is one of the main reasons I’m really big on academic definitions of words, especially when writing. But sometimes it’s not enough to know the dictionary definition, but also where and how the word was first used.

Words evolve over time and new “slang” meanings are created as a result. Understandable. But some words mean exactly and only what they are or were originally defined as.

This week a fellow Minister posted an interesting thread about being introduced as a Theologian instead of a Metaphysician. Which brought up a discussion of the meaning of these words. Continue reading

Our Best Day Ever

Thank You

So yesterday Springwolf Reflections had its single Best Day ever! I don’t want that to go unnoticed or recognized by all of us here at Spring’s Haven. It’s an event worth celebrating and we couldn’t do it without all of YOU!

I can’t say thank you enough to everyone who came by our little home on the web and shared our Full Moon Friday the 13th posts and thoughts from this past week. I’m humbled by your kindness and willingness to share my words with the world.

It will be a very long time before we can break this single day record for sure!  We had 6,081 visitors yesterday. The previous record was a meager 788 which occurred on another Friday the 13th.

How Rare Is “Full Moon Friday the 13th”?

Merlin In The Moon

The Math Genius Is Working On That

Yesterday I asked the question “How rare is today’s event?” How often does the 13th fall on a Friday? How often does a Full Moon fall on a Friday? How often does a Full Moon fall on a Friday the 13th?

According to my Moon Phase Pro (yes there’s an app for that):
In the next 260 weeks: (approx. 5 years from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2019)
There are 11 Friday the 13ths.
There are 11 Full Moons that fall on a Friday.
There is 1 Full Moon that falls on Friday the 13th.

On Friday the 13th of January 2017 the full moon will be just past full, 98% full to be exact. Close, but not officially a full moon day which will be January 12th.  So we can’t count that one.

The Next Full Moon Friday the 13th will be in August 2049. According to Space.com Continue reading

Happy Full Moon Friday the 13th!

The Full MoonMay The Day Bring You Blessings

It is said that wishing on a Full Moon is very magikal. Like any grand parent, she wants to spoil her daughter’s children.  While Mother Earth is asleep, Grand Mother Moon listens to our prayers and wishes to make our dreams come true.

And it is said that Friday the 13th is a day that brings good luck for transition and change. Breaking down barriers and overcoming struggle, it’s a day to let your magik shine.

Use the day, and especially the time after sunset to bring about Good Luck and positive energy that promotes the success for the change and transition you want most in your life.

Everyone here at Springwolf Reflections and Spring’s Haven wish you and yours many blessings on this special day that only comes around once in a very rare occasion. Enjoy the day and night with this full moon blessing: Continue reading

The Numerology Of Friday June 13, 2014

"Merlin In The Moon" by Springwolf 🐾

“Merlin In The Moon” by Springwolf 🐾

The Science Of Numbers

Tomorrow is a special Friday the 13th as it also coincides with June’s Full Moon. That’s a rare occurrence and it does have meaning to Pagans. (Friday the 13th and the Full Moon – June 13th, 2014). But so do the numbers within the date itself.

Mathematics is the only language shared by all humans regardless of culture, religion, or gender. We all use the same constructs to add up a basket of groceries regardless of country fund, be it dollars, yen, rubles or pounds. This type of literacy is called numeracy, which has been the shared language of people throughout history and across continents. It links together people from ancient times, old scholars and medieval merchants to artists, modern astronauts, presidents and every day people like you and me.

Consequently many people believe that numbers share insight and meaning to events and people associated with those events. Of course that also applies to Friday the 13th days. And since this one falls on a full moon, the more information and insight you have about the day, the better you can plan your observances for that moment in time. Continue reading

The Popularity of Friday the 13th

What The Numbers Say

One day closer to Friday the 13th’s Full Moon and another post to make note of this special event. This time it’s a little more personal.

I’ve been writing about Friday the 13th since starting my blog in 2012. It’s come around 4 times so far. Each time I try to share something new about the day and how we Pagans think of the day. “The History of Friday The 13th – A Good Day For Pagans” is by far the most popular topic for a one day event here on Springwolf Reflections.

The most popular topic on average each year has been, and continues to be “Soul Mates, Twin Souls & Karmic Relationships“.

On September 13th, 2013 Reflections had it’s most popular single day. 788 views! And the number one reason? Yep Friday the 13th.

On December 13th, 2013 our visits were near that number, 732. Again, Friday the 13th.

This Friday the 13th coincides with June’s Full Moon. And traffic to Reflections has already started picking up. And again, for Friday the 13th. It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how this week progresses. Yesterday alone brought 327 visitors. Almost half the number of our most popular day. And we were still 3 days away from Friday! Continue reading
