Counting My Blessings

friendshipA Story of Friendship

I’m from a little town in Tennessee called Jonesborough. I didn’t grow up there, but my Grand Mother lived on West Main St. until her passing many years ago. My dad was born in that house. When we went to visit family, all of whom live around there, that’s where we stayed. It was going down “home” and I truly love that little place.

One of the things that still draws me to this little town is its history, being the Oldest Town in Tennessee, and that it’s home of the International Storytelling Center. A truly wonderful place to visit!

To show my support for one of my favorite places, I follow the ISC on Facebook. This weekend, they shared a story that is definitely worth reading. They posted this on their FB page. Continue reading

2014 Moon Phase Calendar

howlingwolfOur Popular Reference Sheet

Each year I publish a calendar for the moon phases and astronomical events of the coming year. About this time I’m amazed by the number of people sending me messages asking if I’m going to update the calendar for the coming year. I’m very glad the calendar has become such a popular resource for so many people. Especially in this technological age of tablets and smart phones.

If you’re one of those folks who enjoy the Moon Phases Calendar on my old Pagan’s Path website, it’s been updated today for 2014!

This will probably be the last year I update the calendar because of those technological apps. They do a great job of personalizing phases and events for your specific location.

If you have a tablet or smart phone, I have a couple of apps on my phone that I use throughout the year that you might like. What I like about them the most is they notify me of phase changes. I have a reminder set for a few days before a moon phase change so I have time to get ready for a ritual or make plans for a Esbat ceremony I might be officiating. Between my two favorite apps, I never miss a phase change or a daily event.

I gave a critique of these apps here on Reflections in December 2012. So check out Sun & Moon Watching On Your Phone for more info.

In 2008 I took on a personal quest to satisfy a desire for personal validation. I had decades of knowledge and experience in my spiritual path, but some how I felt that I didn’t have the right to call myself a teacher or spiritual minister. This was simply something I felt was lacking within my own confidence.

I was serious about my mission and what I wanted to accomplish with my teachings. I was often praised for my classes and lectures, consultations, healing and helping others. But those compliments didn’t satisfy my own inner perspective of my, let’s call it authority for lack of a better word. I did my research of universities, colleges, cost of enrollment and which programs would support my pagan beliefs and focus on the foundation of those beliefs from a metaphysical and shamanistic perspective. I settled on the degree programs of the 50+ year organization of the International Metaphysical Ministry (IMM) offered through one of their institutes of higher learning, the University of Sedona. Another Friday the 13th

Thirteen On Springwolf ReflectionsOne Last Time For 2013

This week marks Friday December 13th, 2013 and many people are wondering what is it with Friday the 13th days anyway? What does it mean, where did this spooky tradition start and is it really a day for bad luck?

It’s known as “Black Friday” or “Black Cat Day” and fear of Friday the 13th is known as triskaidekaphobes. It may not surprise many people to know it’s not a world-wide thing. It’s pretty much an Anglo-European/American thing.

As with many evil and spooky occasions such as this, fear of Friday the 13th began with the vilification of pagan beliefs and practices from the early Christian Church. What a surprise! But this isn’t about them, it’s about Friday the 13th for December 2013! Continue reading

Get Out And VOTE!

Being A Responsible Citizen

Here in the U.S. we are having mid-term elections. To some this is more important than the vote for President. Why? Because the mid-terms help to determine what happens in Congress and how our country is best served by its political leaders.

This isn’t an editorial about politics, so I won’t go into specific details about which party is better, or who needs to be ousted. What’s important today is that you get out and vote!

There are a huge many reasons people don’t get out and vote. They’re too busy. They aren’t excited about either candidate. The weather is too bad to get out in. Their vote doesn’t really matter. And nothing ever gets done, anyway.

In our current political environment, there’s the negative tone of campaign ads thrown at the electorate day and night. The majority of TV ads don’t try to persuade voters to support one candidate, but rather to convince them not to back the other guy.

So why should we be part of the process? Because we don’t want to be part of the problem. And keeping silent does that.

“Why is it important to vote? Continue reading

A Special Gift

Families all over the world are struggling in these hard economic times. People give up little things in order to make ends meet. As things continue, they find themselves giving up even more and still it’s not enough.

Nearly everyone has been touched in some way in these hard times. Some more than others. Some have lost so much that they find something in their life to hold on to that gives them the strength to get them through.

What that thing is will be different for each person. For some it’s their children or a beloved pet. For others it’s a decadent pleasure, maybe the ability to have a bottle of coke at lunch or that special cup of coffee in the morning. Continue reading

It’s Friday The 13th & It Was A Good Day

Merlin Sharing Today's Stats 20130913-statsI’d Like To Say – Thanks For The Visit

I logged onto my blog this morning to a nice and interesting notice. Well at least it was interesting to me.  There’s been “A Spike in your stats”.

I’m honored and thrilled that so many folks around the world have come to visit Springwolf Reflections to learn about The History of Friday The 13th – A Good Day For Pagans.

I must admit I had to ask the math genius in my house to explain the numbers. I’m a visionary, not a calculus expert! He works with calculations all day, every day so he understood this right away. Continue reading

Do Something & Share Your View

email-lostComplaining on FB and Social Media Doesn’t Get It Done

Whatever your position is on Syria, make your voice count instead of merely talking about it on social media. You can share stories, post tweets, rant and rave on message boards. But those communications do nothing to express your view to your Congressional Representatives or the White House. Get involved and do something about how you feel so that it makes a difference.

You can make your view count by contacting your representatives in Congress. If you don’t know how to do that, you can email them through their contact forms.

To email the President you’ll need to fill out the White House Contact Form.

To find your Congressional representatives, go to their websites at:
Find your Senator at senate.gov,
Find Your Congress-member at house.gov

Both congressional sites allow you to find your representative through a search in the top right hand corner of the page of each site.

I’m against military action and I urge others to support diplomatic efforts be exhausted before any violent action take place. If you need an example of what to send, try this:

To The Honorable (enter their name here)

As a constituent, I am writing to let you know that I oppose any military action in Syria.

I realize in today’s world violence against citizens by its government must be addressed. But the moral response is not to meet violence with more violence. Creative diplomacy is the best way to respond to the alleged use of chemical weapons. I urge you to work for a ceasefire, to pressure Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states, and Turkey, to halt the flow of weapons, and to pressure Russia and Iran to do the same.

Sincerely,
You name

I hope you’ll take time to get involved and make your voice heard.

eMails Concerning Reiki Fakes

Springwolf's Hanko LogoAn Increased Concern

I’m trying to go through eMail this week that has been piling up over the past two months. Every now and then a trend will develop from eMail questions or requests for information that I feel needs to be brought out on a larger or more visible stage.

Over the past two months I have received a lot of emails concerning Reiki fakes and frauds. How to spot someone who’s fake or who’s operating in a fraudulent manner is a concern for any profession. But it’s one that’s easily purported in the spiritual arts.

I’ve written several articles that I hope have helped people spot frauds, charlatans and people claiming to have knowledge they haven’t truly obtained. You might want to check out the What Is A Spiritual Expert – Series.

The bottom line is, if you visit with someone claiming to be an expert at anything, you have the right to ask them questions about their training and knowledge. You have a right to ask to see their certifications. And that’s true no matter what professional field they are part of. Be it a medical doctor, lawyer, accountant or any form of spiritual service.
