Sunday’s Homily: When Tragedy Strikes

When Bad Things Happen To Good People

The Alpha's

The Gift of Compassion

In the wake of the Aurora, Colorado “Batman Rises” theater shooting on July 20th, many are asking the question “Why?”. “Why would a supposed benevolent creator allow such a thing to happen?” Good questions that of course are not easily answered.

From the pagan perspective we do not view the Divine as an outside omnipotent being, aka “God”. For us the Divine is a collective. You are not the God, I am not the Goddess, but you and I and all things, seen and unseen, make up the Divine Consciousness. As such, the Divine is not good or bad energy; it’s just energy. Good, bad or indifferent the Divine really is everything. How we (we the incarnated being) express that energy is what’s important and where we find the answer to how can bad things happen to good people. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Eight of Wands – Inverted

Eight of Wands: Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You may feel as though issues are raining down on you today, but don’t fret. They’re not about you. Others are taking out their frustrations and trying to dump them in your lap to handle. Don’t allow them too. It’s their mess, they made the choices and they must live with the consequences of those decisions. Learn to say ‘No’ and you’ll be fine.

Additional Insight:

Others will try to blame you and insist this wouldn’t have happened had you done this or that. Don’t let them shift the buck to you for the bad decisions they made. They could have consulted you first; and they choose not to. The onus is on them, not you. So don’t let them bully you into dealing with the aftermath. It was their call, make them handle the consequences of their choice. Others involved will stand behind you. That maybe a surprise, but you’ll be amazed at how they react to the blame game.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The Priest & Two of Cups

The Priest

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Sometimes 2 cards find their way into the daily drawing instead of one. Today was one of those days.

.

The Priest –
You control your future, guide it with reason, insight and purpose. You have many tools in your arsenal that can be utilized for gaining insight, don’t ignore the ones that are within your higher consciousness. When you view your path from spiritual vision, you will see the way clearly and avoid the pot holes that try to get in the way over the weekend.

Additional Insight for the Priest:

Take accountability for your own actions and your life. You can’t keep looking to others to guide your choices because you think they’re hard. Release the fear and sit upon your own throne where you can go within, connect with your higher consciousness and divine your answers from spirit. Allow the healing to take place, and you’ll be able to walk the path that brings the greatest joy and contentment.

Two of Cups

.

Two of Cups –
Be ready for a gift from spirit this weekend. It’s unexpected, but you’ll be thrilled with the surprise. Accept with love and appreciation.

Additional Insight:

It maybe a tangible present given from an unexpected source, or something non-tangible coming to you from spirit. But be open to it when it comes. It will make a difference in your life and brings both warmth and love into your weekend.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The Fool –

The Fool

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Roll the dice and play the part of the fool. Now is not the time to take chances and act or react on a whim. Not everyone has your best interest at heart. Make sure you know what you’re getting into. Don’t allow others to pressure you and do your own research! You are the one who is accountable for your choices, not someone else. So take charge and don’t be afraid to say “No and that’s it!”

Additional Insight:

You are ultimately accountable for your actions. Don’t let your desperation cloud your judgement and allow you to be pressured into something that isn’t intended to be good for you! Be cautious of the ulterior motives of others who claim to be experts, or have a sure fired bet! They’re not interested in helping you, they’re interested in controlling you for their own selfish gains.

It’s ok to say “No”, and if they get upset; that should be your clue that something isn’t right with this. If they up their forceful pressure; don’t be afraid to say “No and that’s enough”! Then use your own control and walk away from their manipulation. You can do this! And for today, it may be vitally important that you do!

Looking At Blessings And Struggles A Little Differently

The Perspective of Spirit vs. Embodiment

Carole Bourdo - "Wolf Song"

Carole Bourdo - "Wolf Song"

I think it’s very important for those of us on a spiritual path to be careful about assumptions and generalizations in both our thoughts and communications. I think it’s even more important for those of us on a spiritual leadership/teacher role to be careful how we put our messages out to others based on those assumptions or generalizations. As with anything in life, generalizing an entire group of people because of the actions of a few can be dangerous. By placing fault, blame or accountability on any group as a whole only adds to the negative discourse and feeds the fray of hate and anger.

If you believe in reincarnation then the condition of an individual or a group of people should be viewed from the perspective of spirit and not from their physical condition in this single embodiment. This morning I read an article about the rich that made some generalizations and assumptions about all of them as group that can help me explain my perspective. I do believe the article was well intended and was trying to make a compassionate point, but it’s attempt to shine a light on one aspect of the human condition can be perceived in an opposite manner as well.

The article began:
“Why are some people blessed with over-abundance, while others have nothing? The answer to this common question is, a person is not showered with blessings so they can just indulge in pleasure. When we have more than we need, it does not really belong to us. From a spiritual point of view, it has been given to us to hold in escrow.” Continue reading
