Sunday Homily: Count Your Blessings

Count Your Blessings by Springwolf © 2014Not Everyone Is As Fortunate As You

We all go through our days taking little things for granted. It’s not unusual, it’s not selfish, it’s not necessarily a bad thing either.

Most people don’t notice how fortunate they are until something breaks or needs to be replaced. If you’re blessed, you simply add an errand to your week and go pick up whatever it was that broke. But not everyone has that luxury. And it’s when you take that for granted, that you may need to be reminded of how blessed you really are.

For some people the toaster that broke yesterday can’t be replaced. There’s no such thing as having an extra $20 to pick up a new cheap toaster at the local discount store. Even that $5 toaster at the local Good Will store is out of reach. That $5 maybe all they have in the world right now, and it’s needed for milk and bread to feed their child. There is no such thing as an “extra” anything to waste on something they don’t absolutely need.

It’s amazing how many times I hear about conversations like this text message on the right. It seems when someone is struggling through every day life, even those around them don’t truly understand what they’re going through. Until they talk about little things that they take for granted. Sunday Homily: Remember Your Pride

Spread A Smile

Smile When You Don’t Feel Like It

Carry Your Happiness With You

I meet people all the time in person, through email or messages, and they share their personal stories of struggle and challenge with me. They talk about feeling lost, feeling as though they’ve hit rock bottom, constantly sad and filled with anger. Not knowing where to turn or go to in order to find help or answers.

I’m blessed with seeing many, if not most of these people go through their “ah-ha” moments as they work forward through issues they never thought they could overcome. They start reading and learning. They begin turning their lives around and making significant changes not only up front in the beginning, but over the long haul with time and effort as well.

I shared something this morning with someone and a little voice said, there are others who need to hear this today. So if you’re one of those people who has had an “ah-ha” moment or you still face challenges and feel that you’re struggling with turning things around in your life, this is for you. Continue reading

A Homily: Observing The Holiday

TinyHouseLightsPagans Living Amongst The Christians

“I’m not Christian, I don’t celebrate Christmas”, “I’m pagan, why should I be forced to celebrate Christmas”, “It’s too hard to tell your extended family that you do not observe their bastardized holiday.”

I received several messages like these over the past few days. For those of us who do not celebrate the Christian Holiday, no matter what time of the year it is, there’s another way to look at spending time with your family members who do.

You go to parties that are given for your relatives and their birthdays. Moments to mark another year older, or an event for celebrating a milestone in their life, such as a graduation, a new job, retirement and so on. Why do you observe those days? It’s not your birthday or your achievement. So why do you participate in those events? Isn’t so you can share in the celebration of what’s important to those you care about? So you can be with your family and friends to create happy memories while they are here with you? Continue reading

Sunday Homily: Mindfulness

mindfulbellBeing Aware

Mindfulness, which, among other things, is an attentive awareness of the reality of things (especially of the present moment). Living in the now and being cognizant of the events you are engaged in at this moment in time.

It’s important to take a moment throughout the day to be Mindful of what you’re thing, how you’re allowing those thoughts to impact what you’re doing and how it resonates with your soul, spiritual mission and mental outlook. Both for a state of being and for a sense of living your beliefs and putting them into practice.

The thoughts you wake up with in the morning create your day. How you think through out the day, create your week. The patterns you develop throughout the month, create your year.

How you think, creates your reality, your health and your life.

It is a state of being where balance and peace within the moment, within the self and being are the center of all things. It’s not just looking at your thoughts, but your present state of attitude and how that translates into the manifestation of actions and reactions.

If you are stressed, anxious or angry, those emotions will translate through you and into your actions. If you’re at peace and mindful of your thoughts, then the energy you create and express will be calm and enlightened. Do you want to yell at the person driving next to you on the highway? Or at the store clerk who’s taking to long to ring up your items? Or is there a way you can translate your spiritual awareness into calm peace and discover why you’re being held up in the first place? Continue reading

Sunday Homily: Look In A Mirror

Self Reflection

What you don’t like about someone else,
Look In A Mirror.

What Encounters Teach Us

Everyone one of us has had moments during a week, or in a single day when we feel like we’re wearing a sign around our neck that says “Piss me off”. Comments from complete strangers that push a button and cause us to feel hurt, attacked or self-conscious about something. And it could be about anything, even things that don’t even make sense later on.

Sometimes we say wave a hand and tell ourselves we’re being overly sensitive. Sometimes we actually let the comments get under our skin and truly get angry. Other times we pretend we didn’t hear the comment, ignore it, but play it over and over in our head.

As one of my very wise Shamanistic teachers once told me “It’s not all about you. You’re learning to be a Shaman, stop crying about your little hurt feelings and use your head and your heart to help those who are coming to you and screaming for compassion”. Yeah I didn’t like that comment much when he said it to me, but I’ve come to understand what he meant.

I’ve also learned that this perspective isn’t only for the “ministers” in the world. It’s for everyone walking a spiritual path. And maybe even those who aren’t. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The Chariot

The Chariot

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Searching for balance may lead you in an unexpected direction. It’s time to decide if what you want is really what you need. Perhaps it’s time to let go of the things that have let you down and move forward to the things that will fulfill your own mission.

Additional Insight:

Nothing in life is merely black or white. Look at your path with balance, not ego. Real life is filled with a lot of gray areas that impact the road before you. It’s not as simple as taking this road in order to build that road.

The path you take has many projects that need your attention along the way. Each one will build upon the other and pave the road before you. If you skip activities along the way your path will be fraught with an uneven surface, pot holes and crossed lines. And you may even lose some of the precious cargo you’re carrying with you.

Tunnel vision is never a good thing in life. Not only will you lose those you care about most, you’ll also miss out on the beauty of the world that exists all around you. Stop ignoring everything else and bring balance back into your life.

If you’re in a partnership, remember it takes both of you to make things work. Putting on blinders undermines your partners contribution and shows you don’t respect their opinion or ideas. If your ideas are faltering, then perhaps it’s time to listen to the one person who has your best interest at heart. The balance of energy from both of you will rebuild broken ties that have held you together and balance not only your energy, but it will empower and strengthen the path you tread together for success.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Six of Swords

Six of Swords

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

The only reason to look back is to see where mistakes were made and learn from them. Stop beating yourself up over what should have been, but wasn’t. The guilt will not move you forward, nor will it allow you to be free of the past. Get over it and start making the right moves forward.

Additional Insight:

You can’t change the past. All you can do is change the way you allow the past to affect your present and your future. – Springwolf

We all have done things we wish we hadn’t done, or had done differently. Feeling guilty over the choices you made will not make a difference for tomorrow. The events behind you will still be there and still be in the same context as they were then. Beating yourself up about it will not change anything.

But learning from the lesson and applying that knowledge to choices in the here and now will make a difference. It will help you let go and move forward with greater understanding and wisdom. Where as the guilt is only an anchor holding you in the past and doomed to repeat the lessons you’re to learn.

If you feel you must apologize to someone, or try to make amends, write them a letter or call them on the phone. And if you feel you can’t do that, write the letter anyway and hold a private ceremony to connect with them through the Divine spirit in your life. Sending energy of sorrow for the pain you caused, and forgiveness for the actions taken; safely set your letter on fire and allow the words to be carried upon the smoke to the intended recipient.

Remember, forgiveness isn’t for others; it’s for you to let go and move on from the past mistakes that keep you chained in the negativity that no longer belongs in this moment. Let it all go and be free to face the bright light of the future again.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Ace of Pentacles – Inverted

Ace of Pentacles - Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You’ve nothing to lose, so go for it. Sometimes taking the chance and creating your own opportunity is exactly what the Divine Universe is waiting for you to do. Instead of sitting there and worrying what others are going to do for you, create your own luck and make things happen.

Additional Insight:

Sometimes being in a rut means you’re not seizing the moment to do what you’re intended to accomplishment. Going through the emotions and doing for others puts money in their pocket while you’re still spinning your wheels and trying to dig out.

The problem is that the digging often goes sideways or takes you farther into the hole you’re already in. Stop it. Prioritize the steps that will work for YOU. If that means putting other things on hold for the week, then do it. You’ll make more progress working on the tasks meant to create the opportunities for YOU to manifest your ideas and dreams.

You may feel that the tasks at hand are where the prosperity lay. But if you haven’t developed the foundation for you, those tasks can’t be completed. So set them aside for a day or two, or a week if needs be. There’s no sense throwing more effort  behind something that won’t be accomplished. You must take time to create the whole package from the beginning, not the middle!

No one is going to hand you the gifts on a silver platter. It takes work and effort. No one is going to do that work for you. In fact there are some things no one else can do for you.

If you believe in yourself, then believe you have the ability and more importantly the time to work on things that create the foundation for your own efforts. Without that initial work, nothing else can be created, built or expanded.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing – Ace of Swords –

Ace of Swords

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

No relationship is stress or strife free. Stop putting a stake in the ground and expecting others to live up to an expectation that no one can meet. Not even you! True love involves compassion, communication and compromise, especially in times of frustration. Show your strength and be supportive, instead of being stubborn and in-different!

While swords can represent strife and conflict, they can also represent strength. You can triumph in situations by using your heart to show compassion and to communicate calmly about your feelings. Remember you’re the one who is responsible for your own emotions.

“You made me feel” is the worst thing you can to someone, and it’s also not true. “When this happened, I felt like” is the more accurate way to define your own feelings. Blaming others for your emotions is not being accountable, passes the buck and not fair to others.

Take time to think about your role in conflict, because it really does take two to have a fight. And while today many people are expecting a carefree relationship, that Hollywood version of life really doesn’t exist. The ebb and flow of any relationship can put a strain on friendship and love. But it can also build strength and success. It all depends on how you take responsibility for your own actions and deeds.

Stop complaining about the little things and start focusing on the strengths you bring to each other. Change the sword of angst to a sign of triumph and success!
