Being A Workaholic

Working Hard

Working Hard

The Struggles & Solutions To Relax

I struggle with being a workaholic. I get involved in something and become so focused that I lose track of time, and ignore other things that need to get done. Like having lunch or going to bed.

I start working on a task and find myself hours later, sometimes into the very wee hours of the morning still working on it. It’s stressful. It affects your health when you do it day after day. And it’s simply not good for you.

But if I had a problem with a project, I’ve been known to get so focused that I can’t think of anything else until it’s resolved. I’ve had bosses tell me I have to go home and stand there until I pack up and leave. It was much worse than it is now. I talked to a therapist and tried to resolve the issue.

How can you change the negative patterns and turn your day around to be in the moment, enjoy the world around you and relax? The best way is to find a set of tools that offer rewards and incentives. I think I’ve done quite well overall, but it still creeps up from time to time.    I’ve found ways to help me avoid getting back into the old patterns. Continue reading

The Black Moon Of March

The Black Moon

The 2nd New Moon Of The Month

The Second New Moon Of The Month

With every full moon, there’s also a New Moon which can also occur twice in a single month and that is also a rare event for Grandmother Moon. But she doesn’t seem to receive the same spectacular acknowledgement as her brighter sister the Blue Moon.

This month, March 2014; we will see two New Moons. The first occurred on March 1st and the second barely squeaks in on the 30th.

What’s her story and can you observe this special time of the year? Learn more about the Black Moon, her history, her energy, purpose and how you can mark the night of her arrival:  The Black Moon.

Pain Makes People Change

wolfmeditation2But People Choose How

Pain comes in many forms. Physical pain, emotional pain, pain from injury, or disease. You can’t always see the pain someone else suffers. But that doesn’t make it any less real.

Temporary physical pain that heals, can impact someone’s life for a short period. When the injury heals and the pain subsides, most people forget it happened and they’re ready to move on. But the long term effects will not be seen and can be life changing to the person who suffered the injury.

Constant chronic pain of the body, often can’t be seen either. But it’s often ignored by others who can’t understand the suffering because they can see its effects. That doesn’t make it any less real or life changing.

Merry Solstice 2014

springtimeOde To Spring ~

The great Sun rises with the glow of fire,
as seeds are stuck in the muck and mire.
But spring is here on this solstice day,
and warmth returns to our rocky way.

With thunder and rain, the seeds break free.
They push through the Earth for all to see.
Bursting with colors so brilliant and bright,
they glimmer and glow in morning dew light.

And where be you on this luscious morn,
tied up in bed till the spring is be born?
Get up, come sing and dance with me.
Howl with the wolf and flutter with the bee!

It’s Springtime now and the north must wake.
The snows subside and the ice will break.
It’s a day to feast, to laugh and to sing!
For all the bright blessings, we give thanks to Spring!

The First 2014 Equinox – March 20th

A Day Of Balance To Honor The Light and Darkness

A Day Of Balance To Honor The Light and Darkness

Merry Ostara and Mabon

Despite the snow outside our window here in the eastern U.S., this weeks sees the return of astronomical spring. Down south however, our friends in the Southern Hemisphere are welcoming the end of Summer and beginning of Fall.

From everyone here at
Springwolf Reflections and Spring’s Haven

We extend our most joyous wishes
and happiest blessings

to you and yours for a
wonderful and bright
Holiday Celebration!

Are you new to Equinox celebrations?
An equinox occurs twice a year (around 20 March and 22 September), when the plane of Earth’s equator passes the center of the Sun. At this time the tilt of the Earth’s axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun. The term equinox can also be used in a broader sense, meaning the date when such a passage happens. The name “equinox” is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night), because around the equinox, night and day are about equal length. ~ Wikipedia.com – Equinox. Continue reading

Celebrations of the Green Isle

Blessings Of The GreenA Day To Be Proud Of The Green

It’s St. Paddy’s Day here in the U.S. which is much more of a celebration of the Irish and the Green Isle than it is a day to honor a Catholic Saint. And that’s probably a good thing for Celtic Pagans. It allows us to connect with our heritage, honor the old country, the mystical ways of the past through song and celebration. Raise a glass or two of Irish Whiskey or Green Beer and in general have a good time.

But Pagan’s have good reason for not celebrating “St. Patrick’s Day” itself. I wrote about that last year, so feel free to run on over there and check out Why Pagan’s Don’t Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day.

For me today is an Irish Pride Day. A time to bring a bit of the mysticism and folklore of the old days back into thoughts and imaginations of the here and now. Who doesn’t need a little distraction from the stress and grind of the modern world?

So to honor this day of pride and connection, I offer this simple tale of magik and adventure. And I wish you all a very Magikal and Mystical Day of the Green as well.

Sunday Homily: What Is Metaphysics?

Medicine Wheel by Ravynne Phelan ©

The Physics of First Principles

In my book, Pagan Metaphysics 101, I share some of the basic foundations of thought behind Metaphysics as a philosophy. Recently I’ve delved into this topic with others who label their path as Metaphysical, but after discussion were not aware of the origins of Metaphysical thought. And in particular, that their views of a “Christ Consciousness” as the foundation of Metaphysics is actually a fairly new evolution of Metaphysical philosophy.

But is that concept accurate? Do these principles come from the essence of Christ teachings? Or are they based in older Pagan concepts? Or could they be even older than that?

The typical path by some I’ve had this discussion with is to start by complaining about yet another spiritual path taking from pagan origins and re-branding it. It’s not the first time nor will it probably be the last time others modify something to fit their views.

Nor is it the only instance of others trying to distance themselves from what has been known before and practiced by pagans long ago. Trying to get away from the “negative” or “dark” practices of paganism isn’t uncommon, even if it’s misconceived. But I don’t think complaining or trying to vilify others is an effective way of educating misconceptions.

Everyone has a right to evolve their thought and views. But it’s also important to remember and understand where those views originated or came from. What inspired them and who brought them into the context in the first place? That’s where I like to begin the journey of Metaphysics. Continue reading

Life Is A Circle

Stop Chasing Your Tail

You can keep going in circles, repeating the same mistakes and spinning your wheels. Or you can release the breaks and start moving forward. Allow yourself to change your habits and learn your lessons to move your circle forward,

blackelk

Don’t allow the fear held within to be the break that keeps you tethered to the pole and running in circles. Let go of that fear and learn to love yourself. Being alone is a whole lot different from being lonely. You are your own best friend and as long as you have you, there will be no loneliness. You don’t have to have a mate to be happy. Fear keeps you from reaching for your dreams and being inspired to achieve your goals. Fear holds you tight and doesn’t allow you to see that you deserve better and you don’t need to be drawn to those who will not be there for you. Fear keeps you from seeing the negative patterns you put in place every day. If you can’t see the patterns, how are you going to break the ones you don’t like or that put the breaks on your wheel to move forward?

Let go of the fear and allow the circles of your life carry you into a new day of brightness.
