Lughnasadh / Imbolg And The Blue Moon

Lammas Blue Moon

Lammas Blue Moon

The Celtic Holiday Of Lugh Under The Blue Moon

Tonight in the Northern Hemisphere many Pagans will be celebrating the 1st harvest festival of the season, Lughnasadh, also known as Lammas. In the Southern Hemisphere Pagans are celebrating Imbog.

This is an exciting time for Pagans. As the sun sets on July 31st Northern Pagans will honor the Sun and his blessings upon the gardens and fields.  Lughnasadh is known as a Fire Festival and celebrates the Celtic hero Lugh as the Sun God who saved Ireland from its oppressors. Freeing the people from slavery and ensuring the land would always be fertile and abundant.

In the Southern Hemisphere, Imbolg can be seen as a celebration of the return of the Sun or “the return of the light from the dark of winter”. It is also associated with the slow return of spring (in this case early spring), when new life is formed. This makes the holiday one of the Fertility festivals for the new season.

But tonight we complement these observances under a special event, the arrival of a Blue Moon!

A Blue Moon occurs when a full moon falls within a single month twice. For July 2015, the first full moon fell on July 1st. Today on July 31st, we’ll once again see the full moon in the evening sky. Technically the Moon hit its full phase at 6:46am eastern U.S. time. In the world of energy, the moon’s effects can be felt 3 days prior to its official phase and 3 days after. And of course the closer you are to the ‘official’ phase time, the stronger the energy will be.

Keep in mind however, that the ancients who lived by the moon didn’t have the luxury of Naval Observatory and precision clocks the way we do today. For them, the official time was sunset when Grandmother Moon bathed Mother Earth with her loving glow.

In some pagan traditions the phases of the moon represent the transition of knowledge within the Triple Goddess. The quarter moons representing the Maiden Goddess, the New Moon the Mother Goddess, the Full Moon the Grand Mother Goddess (which maybe one reason we refer to the moon as “Grandmother Moon”). The Blue Moon then is seen as the transition of the Grandmother or Crone to the Divine level of existence. She becomes an expression of the evolution of wisdom, as well as an example of the circle of life. She moves from a tangible wise old Crone to a spiritual energy within the Divine force of the universe. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Eight of Pentacles

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti - Eight of Pentacles

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti

Count the blessings you have in your circle. Study the patterns around you and make changes as necessary. Those who can’t or won’t get away from the negative comments or put downs don’t need to be in your Universe. Let them go and move on. It’s time for banishing the unwanted negativity and cleaning house to make room for your positive growth and success. You’ve worked to hard not to move forward with joy.

Additional Insight:

Tonight’s Blue Moon is a great time to review your current status, the situations you’re presently in and those energies that influence your world. The things you don’t like, that bring you down, that make you feel angry, uncomfortable or irritated need to be pushed aside so you can move on. You need room to grow!

You no longer need the nay-sayers in your world. You’ve changed and your attitude is not the same as it used to be. So why are you keeping those negative people in your life who keep pulling you back into their darkness. It only attracts more struggle strife into your world. Do you really need more of that?

Remember words have energy. The negative put downs, the disrespect of others and their views, the shallow comments about appearances and looks have no place in your Universe now. Everyone is the perfect reflection of the Divine in their lives. The spiritual beings before you are beautiful no matter what form they’re packaged in. Those jokes at someone elses expense are pulling you into a circle of negative thought and action. What goes around comes around. You sure that’s where you want to be? Do you know what they’re saying about you, behind your back? Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Five of Pentacles – Inverted

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti - Five of Pentacles: Inverted

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti

Remember what goes around, comes around. Speak from the heart and show your compassion. Others may still be struggling and could use a kind word while they’re going through healing. Listen and give them an outlet for their fear and frustration. Remember when you only needed someone to listen? Give something back and be that compassionate person today.

Additional Insight:

Sometimes life can become overwhelming and no one knows this better than you. Remember when you wanted someone to listen to you and there wasn’t anyone there? You didn’t want someone to fix things, or tell you what to do, or make suggestions, because you’ve already done that and more. You simply wanted someone to talk to.

There are people around you who are still struggling and going through the depths of despair. And they need someone to listen. Don’t cut them off or run away from their drama because you don’t want to hear the sorrow. That’s probably what people said when you needed to cry.

Give something back from what you learned. The compassion you show to others will go a long way to creating healing and ease the fears and sadness they have bottled up inside. That good deed will come back around and reward your kindness. It doesn’t take any effort to listen or hold someone’s hand with compassion. If you share what you did and how you got through the worst days, you might ease their anxiety. Even if it’s only for a moment. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Nine of Wands – Inverted

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti

Nothing behind you is going to serve you well today. Trying to reach back and recover something you want in your life now, will not bring the desired result. Stop being stubborn and let go of those items or people who have no place or purpose for you now. You’re not the same person you were then. There are better and brighter opportunities in front of you.

Additional Insight:

You’re not the same person today as you were last year, or the years before that. Let go of the past and allow yourself to move on to bigger and better things. The past only holds strife, stress and danger. Don’t let that person or situation from your dark days come into your life now. They only bring struggle and pain.

Even if you try to surgically grapple through the negativity to recover what you’ve lost, you’re going to get shocked. It’s not worth it. And you’ll bring back the pain and hurt you’ve worked so hard to recover from. You know in your heart that others haven’t changed their ways. So don’t let them manipulate your kindness or your heart.

Forgive the past, forgive the attempt to manipulate you again. Then let go and move on. In some cases it’s not going to be easy. But remember you can’t learn lessons for other people. You can’t save those who don’t want to be saved. Don’t let their insistence fool you, they may be trying to change, but they’re not there yet. And you don’t want to be there when they fail; again.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Two of Pentacles – Inverted

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti - Two of Pentacles - Inverted

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti

Keep your eye on the bigger picture. These little things are simply part of daily life. They’re not the mountains you’re fearing them to be. You’re not going back to the beginning, and you don’t have to worry about drowning in the sea of despair. Those days are over. But you’re not ready to live a champagne life either. So manage your resources appropriately and things will be fine.

Additional Insight:

You’re not going backwards or repeating the struggles you’ve already overcome. What has crossed your path this week is nothing more the daily responsibilities of life. Don’t make them out to be more than they are. You merely have to take control of your world and manage the maintenance of living.

Security and sustainability require constant oversight. You can’t ignore the routine or expect someone else to take care of it for you. Life means being responsible for your self and what needs to be addressed and taken care of to life in this world.

This isn’t a time to feel like you’re being overwhelmed. It’s not a time to grovel and cry why me! It’s not just you. Everyone has bills to pay, everyone has things they must take care of to survive. Unlike everyone else, you’ve gotten through some pretty rough times and you’ve survived. You endured hardship, you fought through stress and strife and you survived. You are stronger for it and you know what needs to be done.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Four of Wands

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti - Four of Wands

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti

Showing compassion and respect to all things is the key to living in concert with the world around you. Be brave and stand up to the inappropriate comments that others make. It might be a joke, but it’s not funny if it propagates intolerance and hate. Stand up for peace, acceptance and compassion. Walk your talk and be careful how you “like”, “share” and support the voices of others.

Additional Insight:

There aren’t many things worse than being a hypocrite. You can’t talk a good talk and proclaim your side of the argument is the only perspective and built on love and compassion, then turn around and spread visceral intolerance. So be careful who you judge today.  You could be showing your true colors and place the biggest judgement on yourself.

Our world has become a culture of fear mongering in order to gain favor one side of the argument over the other. Spreading hate, intolerance, and a deep seeded agitation for anything that’s different. It’s easier to scare others and destroy bridges that have been made to advance the journey.

But it takes real work and contemplation to build something that lasts through the ages. Creation is a difficult task. That’s why those who don’t have the fortitude want you paying attention to the anxiety. They don’t have the answers, but they’re greedy for the control the creation enjoys. They simply don’t know how, or don’t want to work for it. Continue reading

Sunday Homily: Forgive and Forget to Heal

BestRevengeThe Best Revenge

Thought is energy. To create it, use your imagination. – Einstein

Now I’ve talked a lot about this concept and how we can use our thoughts to make positive changes in our day. To turn things around and endure the challenges life throws at us. How your thoughts really do create your day, week, year and lifetime is all up to you. So think positive thoughts and be mindful through out your day.

But what happens when the actions of others hurt your heart and drill into your mind? How often have you allowed the baggage of the past to impact your current events or situations with others that make you think of that person who caused you harm? Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Three of Cups – Inverted

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti - Three of Cups : Inverted

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti

Pour everything you’ve got into your mission today and through the weekend, and you’ll find all your cups over flowing with celebration. It’s not your wallet that needs to be shared, but your heart, mind and body. If you really want to win the day, you must put in the championship effort. You can do this! Now go for it!

Additional Insight:

As your work on your dream today and through the weekend, do so from a place of wholeness with Mind, Body and Spirit in unison. Your passion can will your efforts, but only if you think things through and focus on the actions you need to take.

Don’t let others control your emotions or they will divert your attention and cause you to make mistakes. Don’t pay any attention to the negative talk that gets into your head, their goal is to create self-doubt in your mind. Be cautious over the physical choices and actions you take, to ensure you’re maximizing your energy for the long haul.

Align yourself with the Universal energy of Divine Creation and you’ll be able to tap into the unlimited energy surrounding you. Whatever that Divine force is to you, it’s there to help you work your dreams and achieve your goals. “God helps those who help themselves.” You want it, it’s time to work for it and make it happen.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Eight of Cups

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti - Eight of Cups

The Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti

Don’t take the blessings that have come your way for granted. Take care of what you’ve received and help it to last as long as possible. If you don’t appreciate those blessings, you’ll waste their gifts and wish you hadn’t. It’s ok to treat yourself once in a while and enjoy life. But when you try to live a champagne life with a beer salary, you’ll throw away all you’ve worked for and be left with nothing. It’s a day to be cautious and frugal.

Additional Insight:

Don’t turn your back on the blessings you have already received. You asked for them, you worked hard for most of them and you should appreciate them when they arrive. When you ignore those things that have come your way after all that, you make it much harder to keep them safe and sound as you move forward to the next goal.

If you got it and realized you didn’t really want what you received than it’s time to sit back and pay attention to the lessons you face. Be careful what you ask for, you might get it. And when you realize it’s not what you needed, it can be very hard to get rid of it in a proper way that promotes growth instead of creates negative karma.

Time to slow down and start paying attention to what’s within. Be honest with yourself and make sure you’re looking at the real picture before you. Is what you’re striving for something you “want” or something you “need”? If you don’t need it, don’t waste your time on it. Because it probably won’t last or it will bring more heart ache than joy.  Take off the rose-colored glasses and see what’s before you with respect and honesty.
