Learning From Hardship – Sing your own song!

Carole Bourdo – “Wolf Song”

Yesterday I allowed my 9 year old to play on my computer. That turns out to have been a mistake. About an hour into his foray of watching some lego video, he receives a message over the browser window. Instead of reading it and asking his dad or me about it, he clicked a button and went on with his video. Something he has been told NOT to do. And he discovered the reason…he infected my computer with a pretty nasty virus!

Thankfully both Daddy and I are IT geeks. But my IT skills are more related to mainframes and corporate servers, than desk top computers. Thankfully Daddy is the desktop King. It took the entire day from about 10am to midnight to fully correct the infection and ensure everything was ok, running right and safe again. With a few extra checks and tweaks this morning, my laptop is virus free and more tightly secured. Which includes not allowing our little Prince to touch my laptop again!

So..what’s the point to this story…While the King was fixing my machine I let go of that nervous irritated energy by doing some spring cleaning. Which involved turning the cushions over on the couches and the chair I like to sit in with my laptop. When you have a 9 year old, it’s a good idea to vacuum under the cushions once a month. In my chair I found enough miniature legos to build a robot. Along with two pencils, a pen and Oh My Stars! 3 cards from Faery Tarot Deck! I didn’t even know they were missing!

When I looked at them I had a feeling that their message needed to be shared. So here are the 3 cards and their messages. I hope they help someone else out there. The overall message in this spread is: Sing your own song!

There’s a fine line between anger and passion. Be careful which one you choose to express. Anger can be a great motivator and holds a great deal of energy. But only when it’s controlled and expressed with determination and without vengeful knee jerk reactions. Allow your passion room to express its view, but keep in mind others are just as passionate about their views. Take care you don’t get into a pissing contest about whose idea is better or worse. That will derail the conversation from the point you’re trying to make. You’re the King of your world, and you are ultimately responsible for the choices you make, what you choose to deal with and those you decide to interact with. Don’t allow their passion to dictate your path or your life.

Sometimes the key to moving forward is walking away from that which serves no purpose but to cause negativity and hurt. You cannot learn lessons for others. You cannot make them change to be the person you want them to be. They must learn these things on their own and they must want to heal their own perceptions of inadequacies. Being stubborn and throwing temper tantrums are not going to get that done. Not for them, or for you. Make your decisions with compassion and concern for your path and those it touches. But don’t let the negative people force you down a path you don’t want to go. Or control your thoughts and actions in response to their attempts to bully you or others involved in the situation.

From the compassion and care you share, will come gifts and rewards. It may take four days or four months, but the rewards are near. Someone close to you will show you the way to finding solutions and working together. Take their counsel into consideration. Even if it doesn’t fit exactly into your plans, remember they have a good deal of experience and knowledge to share. Their wisdom can help you not only now, but down the road where you can avoid serious pitfalls and issues. You’ll be thanking them then, for the suggestions they made now.
