Sunday Homily: Can You Go Back In Time

Don’t Howl For The Past

Be Gracious For Who You’ve Become

I saw a post today that made me stop and think about my life. “If you could go back in time, where would you be today?”

I have a quote I live by:
You cannot change the past. You can only change the way you allow the past to affect your present and your future.” ~ © 1989 Springwolf 🐾 ~

Your past created the person you are today. If you went back in time and changed one small thing, think about the big things that might be affected or lost in your life now. Are you sure you could live with those changes?

The “bad” things in my past, make me a better counselor for rape and abuse victims in crisis today. I’ve been told by some of those clients that had my personal experiences not been part of the conversation, they would not be here today, fighting to overcome and heal. It’s a humbling compliment, to be honest. Having someone tell you that had you not been raped and beaten up to understand what they are experiencing first hand, can really put a spin on your own past experiences. Could you give up making a difference in someone else’s life because they finally found someone who understands how they feel? Continue reading

Lovely Visitors

20130817-001Little Babies!

We live in the country, so of course we have lots of wild visitors around our house. It’s important for people to remember that when they move into new areas, they are displacing habitat for wild animals. Be they raccoons, bears, deer or whatever.

Many people move to the country because of its beauty, quiet, and yes even its wild life. Then they get upset when those very things come to their “habitat” and eat the flowers, get into the horse grain or trash cans. Continue reading

Making Plans

Today I came across a beautiful quote:
“A goal without a plan is just a wish”. Antoine de Saint-Exupery French writer.

How many Tarot drawings have we pulled in the past few years that emphasize making a plan for your dreams? As much as resisted joining Pinterest it has become a big part of my week. I don’t know how others like using it, but one thing I’ve discovered it allows me to do is plan!

When I was a kid my grandmother told me about a book she kept with clippings from magazines. Things she’d like to have, places she’d like to go and so on. She didn’t have that book anymore and didn’t remember where she lost it. But it seemed sad that she no longer had it to look at.

She inspired me to create my own book of dreams and I’ve made several of them over the years. Today they’re packed somewhere in some box some place here in the house or attic. When I started using Pinterest, I realized it’s a digital dream book. A place to gather ideas and make plans.

Sometime in the future when I can get the center into a physical space again, I plan on having various types of gatherings. Some formal, some educational and some simply for fun.

One of those fun ideas is Tuesday Tea Time at Two. A simple gathering for conversation and elegance. High Tea where we can dress up and feel pretty. Low Tea for those days when we want to relax. So here in this board on Pinterest are my inspirations… Tea, Coffee & Cakes

Today is December 12, 2012 – Does It Mean Anything?

12-12Today Is 12/12/12

Today even Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson got into the excitement on Twitter. At 12:12 he sent a tweet:
@neiltyson If you happen to enjoy the uniqueness of 12h 12m 12s 12/12/12, then don’t forget 12h 12m 13s 12/12/12. It’s just as rare.
He timed his tweet pretty well too. It was sent at 12h:12m:13s on 12/12/12. Truth be told, I started writing this post at 12:12, and thus the publish date/time looks pretty good too.  😉

And he wasn’t the only one marking the occasion. Our local NBC News station here in Richmond rang in the moment with party horns and cheers. For them it was 12:12:12: on the 12/12/12 on NBC12. You can’t make this stuff up people.
@AndrewFreiden Wish you were here!!! pic.twitter.com/nyBOe62w.

For many this unique occurrence was simply a good time to break the work or school day up and have a little fun. The repeated pattern is cute, unique and it won’t happen again for 89 years.  For others who believe in Numerology, it’s a time to mark the occasion with spiritual energy, cosmic interpretation or psychic prophecy.
