Today even Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson got into the excitement on Twitter. At 12:12 he sent a tweet:
@neiltyson If you happen to enjoy the uniqueness of 12h 12m 12s 12/12/12, then don’t forget 12h 12m 13s 12/12/12. It’s just as rare.
He timed his tweet pretty well too. It was sent at 12h:12m:13s on 12/12/12. Truth be told, I started writing this post at 12:12, and thus the publish date/time looks pretty good too. 😉
And he wasn’t the only one marking the occasion. Our local NBC News station here in Richmond rang in the moment with party horns and cheers. For them it was 12:12:12: on the 12/12/12 on NBC12. You can’t make this stuff up people.
@AndrewFreiden Wish you were here!!! pic.twitter.com/nyBOe62w.
For many this unique occurrence was simply a good time to break the work or school day up and have a little fun. The repeated pattern is cute, unique and it won’t happen again for 89 years. For others who believe in Numerology, it’s a time to mark the occasion with spiritual energy, cosmic interpretation or psychic prophecy.
Numbers and Mathematics are the only language shared by all humans regardless of culture, religion, or gender. We all use the same constructs to add up a basket of groceries regardless of country fund be it dollars, yen, rubles or pounds. This type of literacy is called numeracy, which has been the shared language of people throughout history and across continents. It links together people from ancient times, old scholars and medieval merchants to artists, modern astronauts, presidents and the everyday human.
As I mentioned in the October 11, 2012 (10/11/12) post:
Many people think there is only one pattern of number analysis. In actuality there are several. While Mathematics is the only language shared by all humans regardless of culture, religion, or gender. The approach to analyzing those numbers is wide and varied. Many of the ancient cultures: Babylon, China, Egypt, India, and Japan were using forms of numerology long before the Greeks and Romans. Over the centuries each culture has created its own method of analyzing numbers.
While there are many of these, several methods have risen to the top so to speak, as the most common methods or practices. These are: Chaldean, Chinese, Indian Vedic, Kabbalah, Pythagorean (also called Western) and Shamanistic (which can vary from Germanic, Celtic, Indo-European or the Americas).
Numerology is the study of the divine or mystical relationship between a count or measurement and life. It has many systems, traditions and beliefs. To learn more about read The Bare Minimum Basics of Numerology and begin your own research.
The method I’m most familiar with is the Shamanistic system. Here we’d add each number and continue adding until the sum is a single digit. Once again as with all things that relate this to that meaning, what we call the correspondence, what that digit means or represents depends on the method you follow.
Let’s look at today’s unique date: 12/12/12
Some systems would add: 1+2+1+2+1+2=9
In Shamanistic Numerology we’d use the full date 12/12/2012 to define the meaning of the day.
Then add: 1+2+1+2+2+0+1+2=11
If you view today as a Numerological 9, then the day represents:
The Divine, The Universal Consciousness or Cosmos. It brings together all forms of mind/body/spirit into one alignment. It’s a great day for celebrating accomplishments, attaining goals or dreams and encourages the ability to achieve influence and impact over our circumstances.
- This number is associated with the Universe.
- This number is associated with the Oak Tree.
- This number is associated with the Raven and Crow.
- It represents the ultimate source of everything, The All, The Divine.
- Negative Direction: In reverse 9 can be egotistical and arrogant. Making assumptions that everything revolves around its presence. Nothing else matters and there’s nothing else to consider if it doesn’t involve itself.
If you view today as a Numerological 2, then the day represents:
The balance of emotions and the desire of partnerships, companionship, love and compassion. As the number of partnership or couples, it’s a great day for weddings, engagements, and even having children. The number recognizes and identifies the union between Mother and child, Father and child or child and family.
- This number is associated with the Moon.
- This number is associated with the Elder Tree.
- This number is associated with the Elk.
- It represents the emotional world and feminine energy.
- Negative Direction: In reverse 2 can represent selfishness, jealousy, bigotry or lack of acceptance of others. Having feelings of being cut off from others or being segregated in life.
Whatever you think about numbers and their representation in life. It’s still interesting to take a look at them and the role they play even when we’re not looking.
