2013 Moon and Astronomical Event Calendar

bluemoon2The Moon, Sun and Magik

Every practitioner of magik should know which days to work and which to take off. Which moon phases are best for what kind of casting and which are for rest.

Whither you call yourself a witch, mage, shaman or ceremonial magician, the moon is an integral part of magikal practices. Know what is happening in the skies around you and how those events are impacting the energy not only on Earth but upon the living things on the planet.

Understanding the astronomical events such as moon phase, lunar or solar eclipse, solstice and equinox dates and times will give a magikal practitioner more insight and understanding for their workings. It will also help when aligning your energies to those cosmic forces through your physical tools and your spiritual being.

Of course the guidelines to working with the Universal bodies are not cast in stone. And like most things in the pagan community where you are in the world, what culture you’re familiar with or drawn too will impact the correspondences between objects and energy. You may want to read about The Correspondence Of This And That for more information.

In magik, timing can be crucial to the success of a magikal practice. But even then, emergencies happen. Certainly if you have a friend in dire need of healing, you don’t need to wait until the next Waxing Moon to cast a healing spell or ritual. But when possible and for the best results here’s the Moon Phase Calendar for this year to help you plan your work.

Today we’re rolled out The Pagan’s Path ~ 2013 Moon Phase & Astronomical Calendar to assist in your planning for events during the coming year.

Merry Christmas To One & All!

Merry Christmas
From everyone at Springwolf Reflections & Spring’s Haven!
May you be surrounded by all the things that bring Christmas cheer today.

christmas-tree

May the GreatSpirits shine brightly upon your path bringing happiness & joy during this holiday season!

We received a couple of “we’re annoyed” notes about our Christmas post. Asking why a pagan center is posting Merry Christmas. To those we’d answer…

Just because we’re pagan doesn’t mean we can’t respect one of the most important days observed by another religion. We’re not in competition with others. It’s not “us” against “them”. Through appreciating each other, we learn tolerance and bring about peace between all like-minded people. So honor those around you and respect their practices, you may find that they return the same act of kindness to you.

peace on earth

Listen to the Earth’s “Dawn Chorus”

The Sound of Earthsong

The RBSP spacecraft’s Electric and Magnetic Field Instrument Suite and Integrated Science (EMFISIS) instrument has beamed back a beautiful Chorus sung by our own planet.

Chorus is an electromagnetic phenomenon caused by plasma waves in Earth’s radiation belts, made up of radio waves that oscillate at acoustic frequencies. They are thought to be the waves that energize the electrons that make up the outer radiation belt.

Sympathies and Prayers for Oak Creek, Wisconsin

The Alpha's

The Gift of Compassion

Everyone at Spring’s Haven wish to express our deepest sympathies, prayers and thoughts for the family, friends and community of the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.

This world is large enough to accommodate all beliefs and to share our knowledge, wisdom and understanding in peace. We can allow others to believe as they choose without threatening our own spiritual path or compromising our own enlightenment.

Hate and intolerance have no place in our society or our country! This senseless violence harms everyone not only here in the U.S., but all souls around the world. By remaining silent when crimes of hate occur, one condones the act. By standing up and denouncing the hate out of tolerance and expressing compassion for the victimized we elevate the standards of morality and eliminate the screams of arrogance and overbearing dictatorship either formal or informal.

As my friend Rev. John E. Lewis Jr. said today:
Undermining the religious, political, moral or philosophical views of others in favor of elevating the religious, political, moral or philosophical views of self is arrogant, pathologically absurd and ultimately self-defeating. These dangerous tactics are on the increase by certain individuals and groups who actually believe they will convince others of their conceived supreme position. It may appear to be effective in the short-run, but in the long-run it will fail miserably, and in the process demean the common decency and civility of collective society. Never can any individual or group ultimately succeed by discrediting others in favor of self.

Our our hearts and prayers go out to everyone affected.

Protecting Your Intelectual Property

Protecting The Rights Of Others Too

Friday the 13thIf you have a website or a blog, do you wonder if your words and artwork are safe from thieves? Sadly there are many who steal bits and pieces of the work of others and claim it as their own. I’ve even found complete articles of mine posted on someone else’s website with “By their name” at the top of the page. It amazes me that people think they won’t be found out.

Every now and then you should spend a day doing a Google search for your name, recent article titles, or graphic images. My attorney recommends you do this every quarter. When you find someone has stolen your work, email them and call them on it. Most will respond with ok I’m sorry. Some will simply take down the work. Others will change their open forum to a members only forum and you won’t be able to tell if they’re still stealing your work or not. And some will be down right belligerent and ignore you or write you a nasty letter in response. At that point you will need to decide how irritated and angry you are about the theft.

There are some tips to putting the law on your side. I’ve added some information and helpful ideas on my own Terms & Conditions pages, specifically a new page entitled Image Credits.

The new page also covers how to help others work from being stolen without credit. From copyright language to image searches, I hope this information is helpful to others who are concerned with the proliferation of stolen work. Whither it’s yours, or someone elses.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Eight of Cups –

Eight of Cups

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You can’t ride on magik alone. To fill your cups, you must put physical action into motion. You know what needs to be done, so stop allowing fear to hold you back and take the chance for success. Get in the saddle and rise above the negative shadows of the past that hold you back. You can do this! Really you can!

No one is going to hand success to you on a silver platter. Wiggling your nose or waving a wand to manifest what you desire only works in the movies. Take action and work for what you want. Stop letting the fear of failure or the trepidation from others keep you from reaching for the stars. You can’t get there unless you raise an arm and attempt to grab one, or two. So stop finding excuses for why you can’t achieve your dreams and start creating the examples of why you can! It’s up to you. So go for it.

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: King of Swords

King of Swords

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Be careful  with the emotions you’re using to tie things together. You could be looking at the situation with a warped view. Don’t read too much into the issue at hand. It’s not as bad as you’re making it out to be and you could be starting a battle that’s not necessary in the first place. Put your sword down for now, survey your domain and keep an eye on things. But do so quietly and without reaction..for today at least.

Additional Insight:

Our past experiences mold our perspectives and can cause us to see what’s not really there. When you react on these emotions you can turn a mole hill into a mountain and make things a lot worse than they really are. For today at least, keep an eye on your domain and take notes. But don’t use knee jerk reactions to respond or you’ll blow things up out of proportion and lose the battle at hand. Instead, take notes, gather facts and tomorrow when you’re in a better frame of mind, you can decide what course, if any; needs to be taken. And you’ll win that battle handily.
