A Short Description of Pagan Metaphysics

I’ve received several emails and FB messages from people asking for a brief description of Pagan Metaphysics. A couple of these emails have indicated they’re writing papers for school. So I thought it might be helpful to simply post my short definition for those searching for the words to define the beliefs.

Pagan Metaphysics Is…
Physics is the study of the observed world. It is the study of what we can see, observe and determine from watching the reaction or interaction of tangible things. Metaphysics is the study beyond physics into the unseen world. That which we believe, but cannot see, still exists. Pagan Metaphysics is a balance of physics through the observation of the natural world and the natural laws of the Divine Universe. It is a balance of both physics and metaphysics applied through observation and personal experience of the unseen spiritual Universe.

“Black Friday” or “Black Cat Day”

Fear of Friday the 13th is known as triskaidekaphobes.

When fear of the day started is up for debate. Some suggest little can be found about the day being negative or filled with bad luck prior to the late 1800s. But others link the phobia to older historical events and occurrences which symbolize the link between the number thirteen and Friday to disastrous events.

One thing many seem to agree to is that both the number thirteen and the sixth day of the week (Friday) have been associated with negative connotations from patriarchal societies and most definitely western cultures. Where as matriarchal societies associate both these objects with positive aspects and connotations.

Pagans Honor The 13th
We should begin with a short explanation for the layman about who and what are Pagans.

By academic definition, Pagans are any religion or spiritual path that does not follow Abrahamic doctrine. It’s a category of religions that would include Buddhism, Hinduism, Shamanism and Pagan Metaphysics (Witchcraft). It’s these last two that are largely associated with modern Paganism. When you put patterns into your life to live your beliefs, they become part of you, part of who you are and what you are. Many people talk the talk of being a spiritual being. Some put their beliefs into practice once a week, or only when they’re conducting rituals. Many forget that walking a spiritual path means walking it every moment of your life. It’s not enough to give it lip service to impress your friends, or give yourself a false sense of “living right”. It means “Walking Your Talk”.

We do a lot of talking around here about the Divine, working with the GreatSpirits, God or a Goddess, but how often do you remember that these terms are not restricted to your spiritual practices, but rather part of your very being and life? Here in this article we’re going to talk about the Divine in a more practical sense of how you and the Divine are connected. Teachable Moments

No matter what path you walk in life, being a teacher of spirit requires a special talent and passion. It’s not enough to know the material, though that is a very big part of it, but one must also know how to deliver their message with encouragement, empowerment and to promote tolerance. How you choose your words is equally important to how you deliver them to your audience.

The biggest thing to keep in the front of your mind is that you don’t know it all. No matter what your experience level, knowledge, degrees beside your name; you are not the all knowing consciousness of the universe. And that’s ok. Every teacher has more to learn and room to grow. The old saying that a teacher has as much to learn from their students as the student does from the teacher is somewhat accurate. You may have more information about a topic or subject, but there are other “lessons” you can learn from those you teach. Whether your subject is spiritual belief, healing, divination or any other practice; you have not come across every situation a person might face. Some one will surprise you with their experience and you’ll be presented with a moment of learning how to help that individual in a new way or with a different approach than you have used in the past. Got Paranormal? is hosted by S.E. Burns where she talks with her panel for an hour of paranormal conversation. She talks with Springwolf to discuss Metaphysical concepts from a Pagan perspective and Spring’s new book “Pagan Metaphysics 101”. The panel discussed Anatomy of the Soul, how the soul is connected to the physical body, reincarnation, karma, dream interpretation and more. A Basic Description of Paganism & Pagan Metaphysics

What is Paganism? What does Pagan mean? How is Pagan Metaphysics different from Witchcraft? With the growing popularity in Paganism, many people who have never heard the word before, or people who don’t know what it is are looking for some basic understanding and knowledge about the beliefs and practices. Many wonder if it’s a religion or something else. Is it evil or bad? What’s real and what’s made up in Hollywood?

Of course anyone could write an entire book on these subjects. Well, actually I have with Pagan Metaphysics 101, the first book in a series to explain these questions in more detail. But for those who are looking for a short general version for their own understanding, I offer the following brief explanation.

The Word ‘Pagan’
Many beginners confuse the translation of the word pagan with its meaning. Pagan translates to “country dweller”, but that’s not the definition of the word. It’s just the translation. In the old days a country dweller was someone who lived off the land and depended on nature to survive. They were typically practitioners of some form of nature or earth based religion. How Do Pagans Approach Social & Political Issues?

Here in the U.S., the silly season of Presidential elections has spurred a lot of interest from the Pagan community. The Separation of Church and State is even more important than ever before here in America and Pagans are trying to make their voices heard.

Paganism/Witchcraft/Pagan Metaphysics is one of the fastest growing religions in America today. As well as around the world. Many people are becoming disillusioned with the unethical actions, politics and overpowering control that fundamentalist religions are expressing and pushing in our world today. And many are looking for peaceful alternatives. “Membership in Wiccan, Deity, Druid and Pagan sects has been skyrocketing — up from an unregistered blip in 1990 to more than 350,000 as of 2001” according to an article in the Washington Post.

As the level of strict religious views rises in our political discourse, I have received a huge amount of eMail from researchers, pagan activists and those looking to understand our path, asking for information that outlines the opinions of Pagans from a faith/belief perspective on today’s many issues. While I cannot speak for the opinions of all Pagans, I can discuss the basic principles outlined in the teachings of Pagan Metaphysical theology.

The following is a general description of how our Metaphysical Theology views some of today’s hot topics.
It is important to note that Pagan Metaphysics strives for peace and harmony within the Divine Universe and within the individual being. Through mutual respect and acceptance we can discover and acquire peace for all and create a world that is harmonious for everyone. But this approach does not take away the choices of individuals to direct their own lives with free will and the acceptance of the consequences of those choices. Continue reading →

A View of Metaphysics from a Pagan Perspective.

Physics is the study of the observed world. What we can see, observe and determine from watching the reaction or interaction of tangible things.

Metaphysics is the study of the unseen world. That which we believe exists. The word “meta” means higher and beyond. Here we’re talking about the concepts beyond physics.

Thus metaphysics is the study of the world beyond physical observation. In this definition Metaphysics is a philosophy of physics that tries to solve the questions that material science cannot.
