Friday, the 13th and The Full Moon

Thirteen On Springwolf ReflectionsWhat’s In A Day?

Thirteen. The number of transition and change. The Witch’s Number. The number of a Perfect Coven and Black Cats.

We’re coming up on another Friday the 13th this week and as usual I wanted to take note of it. It’s typically seen as a day of Good Luck for Pagans. A time to celebrate and take note of transition and change in our lives. To welcome and honor that change as part of the circle of life and the flow of Nature’s energy.

The one constant in Nature is that nothing stays the same. All things change. But in general humans fear change. They’re scared of what’s coming around the corner and what they don’t know. Better the Devil you know, than the one you don’t. But wouldn’t it be better to welcome change and be excited about what’s to come?!

This Friday the 13th is also marked by a Full Moon. In my clan we call this month’s full moon the Strawberry Moon, but it has other Moon Names too. For the Celts it’s the Moon of Horses. For the early Colonials it’s the Rose Moon. For the Cherokee it’s the Green Corn Moon. And of course there are many more.

So is there something special about a full moon falling on Friday the 13th? Of course there is! Continue reading

The Legend Of The Sun and The Moon

sun-n-moonThe History Of How The Sun Loved The Moon

“Tell me the story about how the Sun loved the Moon so much he died every night to let her breathe.”

Oh and yes, it’s breathe. You take in a breath that allows your lungs to breathe. Seems there has been some debate about that too.

The quote itself has captured the imagination of people world-wide. But what is the story and where did it come from? What’s the history or origin of the phrase? Who said it? And what’s the whole story?

I’ve spent a good deal of time searching and delving into the history of this phrase. And continue to search, for the original source. My initial assessment hasn’t changed. No one actually knows where it originated. So far…

Some believe it’s a spin on a much earlier folktale “Why the Sun Chases the Moon”. But there’s no real factual evidence linking these two together. Mostly supposition and that doesn’t make the link clear. It makes it a theory based on opinion. Not good enough for me.

Whither it’s a claim that the story was inspired from the Bible, the Australian Aborigines, Indo-European Pagans, the Norse, the Mayans, various Native American Nations or any other variety of cultures, people want to be “the originators” of this grand phrase and subsequent story. It’s such a great line, everyone simply wants the quote to come from “their” cultural origin and their history.  Continue reading

Sunday Homily: Have Faith, Not Hope

Graduating Wolf2 By Springwolf © 🐾One Powerful Change Of Perspective

Today a friend shared a YouTube video that changed the way I look at the words Faith and Hope. And surprising to me, it came from Jim Carrey’s Commencement Address at the 2014 MUM Graduation. (I’m posting the video below.)

He said something that got me thinking.
Take a chance on faith. Not religion, but faith. Not hope, but faith. I don’t believe in hope. Hope is a beggar. Hope walks through the fire and Faith leaps over it.” ~ Jim Carrey

This week I’ve altered that quote a little bit. I can’t claim it as mine in a copyright; the inspiration and credit still go to Mr. Carrey. But I wanted something that was easier for me to remember and share with others. So here’s what I came up with.
“Have Faith, Not Hope. Hope is a beggar. Faith is a Believer. Hope walks through the fire and Faith leaps over it.” ~ Dr. Vickie Carey 2014

Wow. Hope is a big thing in my thinking. Hope that things will get better; that we will endure the struggles, that we can overcome the challenges. Hope we’ll win the lottery.

If I let go of the begging, as he puts it, what is there? Faith is a belief. And I’m left with: A belief that things will get better. A belief that we will endure the struggles. Belief that we will overcome the challenges. Belief that we WILL win the lottery. Why not?! It has to happen to someone! Continue reading

Intriguing Experience In Talking To Ghosts

Ghost Radar® by Spud Pickles™ for Android

Ghost Radar® by Spud Pickles™ for Android

There’s An App For That

I’ve written about the Android App Ghost Radar here on my blog back in August 2012. I have a good time with this app. The company who makes this app put out a new version this past year that’s supposed to be bigger and better. This one that I’m using is called Ghost Radar Legacy. I haven’t had time to check out the new app, but if you’re interested in these kinds of tools; you might want to visit Ghost Radar Connect on GooglePlay.

Last night I was a guest on Mary Marshall’s ParanormalMD Radio Show and the topic of EMF (Electro Magnetic Field) and EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) tools came up concerning a recent investigation Mary had been on. That conversation inspired me to start up my little App this morning on the way to taking my son to school.

Now I can’t vouch for the accuracy of this app as I stated in the original App review. I’m not a Ghost Hunter or Paranormal Investigator. So this app is purely for my own amusement and interest. But sometimes your experience with such things are so interesting that you do build confidence in the validity of their usage, and that happened to me on this morning.

I was really intrigued by the conversations; I should say the attempted conversation presented by the app during this ride. I thought I’d share some of our interaction with what we heard and what it picked up as we were making our trip to the school. If for no other reason than to share a few moments of “Hmmmm”.

As an adept psychic, I talk to ghosts and spirits all the time. Listening to them takes some effort and it’s not something I do when I’m driving. It’s too much of a distraction. But I do ick up on the energy regardless and trust my instincts to interpret what I’m feeling. This is important to understanding how I use the app. It’s not a one on one conversation like you and I would have. It’s an opportunity to practice “feeling” energy and working on your psychic skills to interpret what you feel or pick up on.

Our Perspective / Interpretation
Land My car is broken this week, and I’m driving my Mom’s travel van. This thing is huge! Especially compared to my Mustang. When I started up the van, this was said and my first thought was “Land Yacht”; yep..this thing is huge. And that’s what we call it. So it seemed to fit.
Pretty As we were driving over the dam road, the ghosties shared this description. Yes it’s a beautiful morning and the view from the dam road looking west up the length of the 300 acre lake was definitely pretty.
Direction The entrance/exit of our subdivision is part of a ‘T’ intersection. When we stopped the ghosties said this and we took it to be a question. Which direction are we going? We let them know we were going to turn northward.
Spider On our way up the road, they shared this. Where?! I don’t like spiders inside “my domain”.  At first we didn’t find a spider.
Forth Within a moment of asking that question out loud, they answered us. My husband, Garrett, took this to mean in front of me (no idea why, but I trust his instincts). So we looked around the best we could while driving. There was a spider, but I didn’t see him until after we got to the school. And I quickly put him outside where he belonged!
Brick Along our drive we pass a small white brick house. To this point in our travel, all the houses and buildings are brick or wood. Except for the church which is way back at the T-intersection. This was said right as we passed that little white brick house.
Wolf A little farther down the road they shared this. My first reaction was “That’s me”.
Carefully Once at the school, we sat waiting for the doors to be unlocked for the kids to go in. The child likes having Dad walk him to the doors. As they were getting out, the ghosties shared this suggestion. Which is very fitting considering Garrett is fighting with a very sore toe that’s making it hard for him to walk normally. So yes, getting out carefully was required advice.
Store Earlier we had been talking about what we’re doing this afternoon when we go out to pick up the child from school. He wants to go into town to spend some of his birthday money. While my boys were in the school, the ghosties said this. And I reminded them, we weren’t going to the store until this afternoon.

I’m open to the idea that this app is nothing more than a random word generator and has no real evidence of ghost interaction. I have a healthy skepticism about paranormal events. I don’t automatically believe them to be real; and I don’t automatically believe them to be fake. The app on GooglePlay clearly states the app is for “Entertainment Purposes”.

But ..I’m also a believer in ghosts and spirits and communication with them. I’m a psychic, a channel, I know the experiences I’ve had talking to ghosts on my own without an EMF, EVP, ghost app or whatever. I’ve been doing it for 40+ years. So yes, I believe it’s possible because I’ve done it and I do it on a daily basis. But frankly it takes some effort to “turn on” the senses and talk/listen to spirit.

I have fun with this app because it doesn’t take a great deal of effort on my part to potentially talk to ghosts in this fashion. And when the words the app picks up relate so well to what’s going on around us or in our conversation, then…come on….there’s got to be something to this. It’s to freaky not too. Right?  😉

I thought it was interesting anyway. And so did Garrett; my skeptic atheist husband.

Thoughts Of Maya Angelou

Thoughts & Prayers

Thoughts & Prayers

A Woman Who Gave Us All Something To Think About

A statement from Wake Forest University, where Maya Angelou had been professor of American studies since 1982, said: “Dr Angelou was a national treasure whose life and teachings inspired millions around the world.”

Women of my age and older have a lot of thanks to extend to Dr. Angelou for her tireless work to bring equality to all people, regardless of race or gender; or anything else for that matter. Her work for civil rights, human rights, and women’s rights always gave us all something to think about and ponder through her poetry and words.

On May 28th, her family posted this message on Dr. Angelou’s facebook page:
Thursday, May 28, 2014
Statement from Dr. Maya Angelou’s Family:
Dr. Maya Angelou passed quietly in her home before 8:00 a.m. EST. Her family is extremely grateful that her ascension was not belabored by a loss of acuity or comprehension. She lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.
Guy B. Johnson

There are so many tributes to her and her life, what she meant to the world, to African-Americans, to women and others. I won’t even try to put into words the legacy she leaves behind as I think it would pale in comparison to her own words and to what others have written over the past few days about her.

For my own view of Dr. Angelou, I’ll remember her for her comments on spirituality and the words she used to share her journey to finding her own path of faith. She was raised Christian, but went on a discovery to find her own essence of spiritual life. Continue reading
