About this time each year, I used to publish a Moon Phase Calendar. It helped me plan out rituals and observations for spiritual and magik work during every phase of the moon. With the advent of Cell phone technology, it’s much easier today for people to load up an app and set their own reminders. So I stopped creating the calendar.
I still get asked at almost every cycle of the Full Moon, why I no longer publish the calendar. I wrote about this in 2014 here on my blog: Moon Phase Calendar – Update.
If you’ve followed our blog for a while, you know Spring has been fighting through 2016 with illness, surgery and sudden medical ailments. To respect her privacy, we have not shared a lot about these conditions. But we have tried to keep our readers up dated.
Spring continues to struggle with her recovery. While progress has been made in some areas, we got bad news last week that has pushed that recovery back a bit. We’ll know more next week and we hope things aren’t as bad as they potentially could be.
As always, thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers. Your notes are an uplifting for Spring and we all appreciate your kindness and support.
We would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has sent messages and prayers to Spring during her recent health battle.
“I’ve quickly learned why folks with brain injuries get so frustrated during their healing process. 2 steps forward and 4 steps back.” Spring said recently. She continues to work on the brain exercises that are designed to strengthen the brain while rebuilding new pathways where necessary. It’s along and hard process, but progress is being made.
We would like to extend a thank you to everyone for your patience during this ordeal. We are not able to provide a schedule for the Daily Tarot Meditation Drawing. But you can still follow Spring’s progress and thoughts, along with some inspirational shares on here Facebook page.
Your thoughts, prayers and healing energies are welcome and deeply appreciated.
The Festivals of Fire and Light
Celebrations of August 1st or 2nd
These Sabbats (Pagan Holidays) are observed on August 1st or 2nd, depending on one’s personal Tradition (spiritual denomination). The early pagans were not blessed with NASA or the Naval Observatory, so their celebrations varied slightly from places to place and Tradition to Tradition. Over time these holidays began to find stability as official calendars become more commonplace throughout Indo-European countries.
Even though many parts of the world transitioned to Solar calendars, Pagans still celebrated their rituals on a Lunar cycle. Thus our holiday observances actually begin at sunset on the evening before the scheduled day of the Sabbat. And that too can depend on where you are in the world. Continue reading →
Last week I shared an email I had received from someone who wasn’t so nice, and how I responded to their message. I’d like to take the opportunity to share a fabulously interesting email I received this week and perhaps show a little contrast.
I love getting email, I love answering questions from people on all levels of understanding and experience. People always apologize for asking basic questions, or being long-winded or for emailing in general. It’s really not necessary to apologize. If I didn’t want email I shouldn’t have put up a contact page and provided a mechanism to receive correspondence. So let’s face it, if I didn’t want to answer questions, I picked a pretty poor profession to avoid it!
I get a lot of email of various kinds and from all over the world. It may take me a few days to a few months to get through them all, but I do answer all of them. Receiving email comes and goes in waves. There are many more messages from fall to spring, especially between Samhain and Yule. And not so many in the summer between June and September. Now that makes sense here in the States. But our summer is the winter for the southern hemisphere and the pattern seems to follow along in the same way. That’s always confused me. But ok.
Now some emails I receive are more interesting than others of course. I love the questions that cause me to really sit back and think how I feel about the topic, or cause me to research a little before I can answer. It’s important to remember that most people share a belief, but that we often call things by different labels. So you might need to research a term or a phrase to discover if this question’s concept is something totally new to you, or is it a topic you’re familiar with that has been given a different name. Fallen But Not Forgotten
This weekend is a reminder of the sacrifices that have been made for freedom. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union Soldiers. The south too had its day of Decoration, but the date of celebration varied through out each region of the nation.
On June 28, 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Holidays Bill, which moved four holidays, including Memorial Day, from their traditional dates to a specified Monday in order to create a convenient three-day weekend. The change moved Memorial Day from its traditional May 30th date to the last Monday in May. The law took effect at the federal level in 1971.
Blessings On this Memorial Day Weekend everyone. Please have a safe and relaxing extended weekend! And spend time remembering what this weekend is really all about.
What do you do when one of your peers questions your right to hold the titles, or position you’ve worked long and hard to achieve? Do you get angry and fight back? Do you ignore their intolerant comments? Do you try to correct their misconceptions? Or do you meet their hatred with love?
I received a private message on Facebook from someone questioning my credentials and, how do I put it, my “right” to say I’m a metaphysical minister, because clearly I’m pagan.
Well of course I am, I’ve never made any secret about that. I tried to respond to the message but I’m blocked from the seemingly fake account and can not respond.
Sadly the message seems to have come from a member of a private FB group I’m part of as an alumni. Now I surmised this because the message shared quotes I’ve made in posts that are only available and seen on the group page. What made this even more shocking, this is a group of spiritual ministers! Say what?! Continue reading →
