Tuck your head between your legs and …give yourself a hug! There’s enough going on in your life to struggle against. Stop trying to join in the fray and help those determined to destroy you and keep you down in the muck and fear of the past. If they want to be there, you may need to let them go so you can move forward on your own.
You can’t make others see that their own fear is keeping them in despair and struggle. If they’re not willing to look within themselves and discover their own lessons; you can’t make them do it. But you don’t need to join them there and ignore what you have learned about your own patterns of action or inaction and moving your path forward.
Self sacrifice doesn’t mean wallowing in self-pity and living in the past so that someone else feels good about who they are. It doesn’t mean constant struggle against things you know can be changed and overcome. It doesn’t mean fighting against the cycle of hardship to remain in that continual downward spiral, just so someone else feels safe and secure in their own fear and stagnation.
Your sacrifice might allow someone you care about to feel justified to continue walking the path of their same old negative patterns. Constantly fighting against the world, you and themselves. But you’re not doing yourself any favors by ignoring everything you’ve been working to change, so they can keep you anchored in your own negative actions and mired in all the fears you’ve worked so hard to let go of and overcome.
At some point you must realize you’ve changed. You’re not the same old person you used to be. And in changing you are forcing others to react to a new you and not the old negative you. If they’re unwilling to walk with you into the light, into the accomplishments of change that lift you out of the muck and mud; then you may need to walk away.
Sometimes you have to let go of those in your life who refuse to move forward.
Sometimes you have to say good-bye, so that you can fly free!

It doesn’t matter if it’s a childhood friend or class mate, your parents or siblings, or even your partners or spouses; you can’t grow and evolve when someone around you denounces what you’ve learned, what you believe or what you feel you need, in order to move forward in life. That kind of self-sacrifice goes against your mission to be one with the spiritual force and perspectives in your own life. It ignores the mission, lessons and karmic work you came here to accomplish.
Each and every one of us needs to ask, did I come here to work through your lessons or to work through mine? Did I come here to evolve my spirit and be one with the Divine on my own terms? To live with respect of self, and love the self and allow the self to grow beyond measure and rise up to enlightenment of Spirit.
Be brave enough to tell the one you’re with that you can no longer live this way. That what you have learned about yourself and about your path needs to let go of the fear and face forward to experience the blessings of the unknown. Tell them they need to let go of their fear and you can walk forward together and support each other. But if they refuse to change, you will need to move on and that could very well leave them behind without you. It might be a hard choice to let go. But you really can’t learn their lessons for them.
Have the courage to live by your values and move forward with excitement and adventure. All you can do is love yourself enough to care about how you are repeating your own patterns and when you need to break the cycle that allows you to spread your wings and fly. You never know, by putting your path in the top priority and moving forward, you may become all the inspiration they need to break their own chains and come along with you. Flying in pairs can be a great deal of fun, dancing through the clouds and emerging in the glow of the warm sun; or even the brightness of the beautiful full moon. Allow yourself to fly free. You deserve it.
