Stop punishing yourself at every turn and for every thought, move or action you make. It’s not worth it to hold yourself up to a standard that you know no one else can meet. Time to practice some self-love and forgiveness! Only you can stop the bleeding!
All that anger you’re turning inward isn’t doing you any good at all. You’re only putting more pressure on yourself to be perfect. It makes no sense for you to be open and welcoming of others and their faults, but not of your own. Stop it! Seriously. Just Stop It!
You can not go back and change what has happened or what you’ve gone through. The only thing the past has to give you today are lessons and knowledge to help you avoid the same mistakes now and in the future.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. ~ George Santayana.
Santayana’s entire quote gives that famous line much more meaning:
Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
Change depends on remembering where you came from and what you went through. Constantly changing without those memories of the past, means you never improve, never change your direction, or have the ability to improve your knowledge and allow it to form into wisdom. You remain an infant, unwise, uneducated, constantly repeating the actions that bring you sorrow and regret.
Spend the day and this weekend within yourself to reflect on the past. Be brutally honest with your views and see your actions without over indulging your emotions. Don’t be overly critical of yourself either. That’s not the point to this. Look at them from the perspective of spirit and really see how you created the situations, played the lead role and learn from the lessons that were presented to you.
You can’t change the past. But you can change the way you allow it to control you today and influence your future. No one else can take that kind of influence over your actions. No one else can heal your inner self. You might allow someone to help you cover it up. But it will always be there, until you forgive yourself and let it go.
You are the white knight in shining armor you’ve been waiting for. Or the maiden you’ve been trying to sweep off her feet. Be that person who gives unconditional love to you, with the greatest compassion and care for YOU and who YOU are! Forgive yourself. Let go of the hurt and turn the past into positive action and wisdom for today and the future. Allow yourself to be loved…by you. And you will obtain the wisdom of the ages that will turn your entire life around for the better. Love yourself. It really is that simple.
On this holiday weekend of Beltaine, take time to unite your physical self with your spiritual consciousness. The marriage of spirit is held within you and gives you access to the unlimited energy of the Divine Universe for making change in your life.
