Psychic: (greek psychiokos – psyche, soul or that which is mental) to sense, to understand and to interpret for practical purposes, a force that enters in and emanates out of the body, mind and/or spiritual or ethereal realms without use of the 5 physical senses.
Everyone is psychic to some degree. Most people just don’t realize it or they call it by some other name or phrase. It’s easy for someone to say “I have a gut feeling about this”, instead of admitting to themselves that they are listening to one of their senses, or their psychic insights. But every living animal, including humans, have that 6th sense.
“Being” psychic is just a matter of becoming in-tune with that extra sense which can come in various forms. As children we had to learn and understand our other senses for sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch. We learned about them as a baby and the more we experienced in life, the more we are able to utilize those senses in our daily life.
Psychic senses are exactly the same. They aren’t a special gift, nor do they make one person more special or powerful than the next. We all have these abilities and we all can learn how to develop them and how to use them.
The first step is to understand what these senses are and which ones you have an aptitude for. Just like some musicians are adept at playing the piano more than the guitar; each person has their own aptitude with one of their psychic senses.
There’s a mired of psychic abilities and terms to describe those abilities. Here is a short compiled list to help you understand the different types and levels of psychic abilities.
Clair – French prefix meaning Clear.
(Clear Audio/Hearing) To perceive sounds or words from sources broadcasting from a spiritual or ethereal realm.
(Clear “emotion”) To sense or “feel” within one’s self, the attitude or emotions of another person, animal, plant or spirit.
(Clear tasting”) 1. To taste a substance without putting anything in the mouth. 2. To perceive the essence of a substance through taste from the spiritual or ethereal realm.
(Clear Smelling). To smell a fragrance or odor coming from the spirit or ethereal realm.
(Clear sensation or feeling) To perceive information by a ‘feeling within the whole body” without any outer stimulation.
(Clear touching) More commonly known as Psychometry. To handle an object or touch an area and perceive through the palms information about the article or its owner or history, that was not previously known by the Clairtangent.
(Clear vision) To see into an ethereal dimension without using physical eyes or stimulation. To reach into another vibrational frequency and visually perceive “within the mind’s eye” something existing in that realm.
A person who allows his/her body and mind to be used as a mechanism for the etheric world intelligence to bring psychic information or healing energy to others.
- Channeling –
To allow an etheric world intelligence to enter one’s mind and impress thoughts upon the consciousness to be spoken aloud, using one’s voice, or body to deliver the information or healing energy.
Psychic vs. Channeling
A channel is different from a psychic, in that when one channels they do not interpret the information or energy being received from spirit. It is given to the client just as it is received. Not all psychic’s are channels, but all channels are psychic.
As with most things, there are different levels of channeling, each depending on the mission or purpose of the individual in this incarnation. For instance, someone may be in this existence to perform the service of Divine healing. Therefore they are a healing channel. In their way, they channel energy from the divine directly to their client. They don’t interpret the energy, rather they are like an extension cord extending the energy from the Divine to the client.
There are four levels of Channeling source. Even though a psychic healer may tap into the Divine Consciousness to direct healing energy, they still have an inner awareness for where that healing is needed. This
- Level I Channel:
This 1st level of channeling taps into the higher consciousness of the individual channel. Even though a psychic healer may tap into the Divine Consciousness to direct healing energy, they still have an inner awareness for where that healing is needed. This comes from within the Channels Divine Conscious Mind or what some like to call “the God within”. This level of channeling is typically utilized by psychic healers.
- Level II Channel:
The 2nd level channel has the ability to communicate with the Spirit guides or spiritual teacher(s) of the client, or of the channel them self. At this level the Channel has the ability to speak clearly without need for interpretation the words or images being provided for communication between Spirit and Client. “I hear someone say” is a common phrase these types of channels may use. A psychic doesn’t “hear” clearly, but rather has a feeling or sense of words that are being given to them. Some of which are left up to their interpretation to be deciphered and shared with the client. A channel in this case, isn’t ‘picking up’ on what they believe is being said, they hear it clearly as the communication is channeled through them.Think of this as the difference between a telegraph and telephone. A telegraph is receiving the message, but what is delivered is only as good as the interpretation of the telegrapher to decipher the code and write it down. Where as there’s no need for deciphering the message from the telephone.
- Level III Channel:
The 3rd level channel has the ability to communicate with the larger Soul Group of either the client or the channel. This level of information is restricted from all but the individual and a very reverent group of individuals. At this level a Channel can tap into the akashic records where past life memories are kept, and can not only see, but also understand the connections of those energies to the greater Divine purpose. Psychics who say they can tap into your past life memories are only picking up on the energies an individual has already experienced from their past life memories. They are not tapping into the akashic directly. They may think they are; but they’re not. Why? Because the akashic records are extremely sacred and hold within them not only the talents an individual brought into this incarnation, but the spiritual mission, the karma and the reasons behind that karma as well. This energy defines who YOU are at all levels of being. In order to tap into this information a channel has proven their wisdom (not only the knowledge) of utilizing this information.
- Level IV Channel:
The 4th level channel has the ability to connect directly with the Divine Conscious Mind. The 4th level brings with it some special energies or lessons for a channel to achieve before this connection is allowed. And not just anyone will be given the opportunity to achieve that level of channeling. 4th Level Channels are also called Multi-Dimensional Channels, because they can reach into multiple dimensions of the Divine Conscious mind. They reach this 4th level, only through trance or semi-trance and with guidance from the Divine energies. The energy that is sent through the connection is too great for a conscious channel to handle, no matter how powerful or strong they think they are. Thus the trance state is a key tool utilized by the Divine to make these types of connections.
Not every channel can reach all these levels, but those that can reach the 3rd level for instance, can also reach the 1st and 2nd. This level of channeling brings with it a great responsibility for service to spirit. That service covers things like learning discernment, unconditional love, sharing knowledge, and helping people achieve their own empowerment and enlightenment.
The universe is a hierarchy, with laws of balance and order. If these requirements did not exist, than anyone could be a channel just by raising their hand. No spiritual enlightenment, no karmic connections and no wisdom needed. Now would you want to get information about your job, loves, or future from someone who hasn’t been prepared by the Divine to be a messenger. Let’s face it, that is exactly what a channel is, a messenger of spirit.
The Intuitive Expert
Being an intuitive expert means you are using information received through spiritual connections to provide additional information to a client about their current situation and the potential outcomes. Whether you have an aptitude for being a psychic or a channel, hanging out a shingle and offering services gives the impression that you are an expert up to the task. Individuals will look to you for answers and when you provide them, they expect them to be fairly accurate. Sadly there isn’t a single person on this planet who is 100% accurate when it comes to psychic information. I don’t care how good the psychic is, how famous or well-known they are; even the best psychics are potentially only 70-75% accurate. And that’s really not much in the scheme of things. So it’s very important for everyone, psychic professionals and clients to remember that giving or receiving psychic information is only an additional tool that can provide additional perspectives of the situations in one’s life. But it should not be used as the single source for making choices and decisions.
Many people who are just starting out and don’t really know what they’re doing yet often fail to inform their clients about their experience level. That deception puts an extra burden on the psychic and their karma. But starting out is ok as long as the psychic is honest and up front about their experience and fully discloses their insights when they’re not sure about what they’re “seeing” in a reading.
A new psychic or even some experienced psychics may think they’re accurate, but don’t make that assumption. There is a GREAT deal of responsibility that goes along with the position of psychic reader or channel. If you are unsure of the information you’re receiving, then tell the client that. If you’re really unclear about some of the information you’re receiving or picking up on, then ask your guides for clarification before you give it. If you’re still unclear, skip it and say nothing. This is how one acquires discernment, which is a key ability in becoming a psychic reader. Simply because you’re picking up on something, doesn’t mean you HAVE to share it. If you have a ‘feeling’ the client can’t handle information you know you have received, then don’t share it. Discernment means knowing what you can say, how to say it and when it can be given. It can mean keeping your mouth shut equally as much as phrasing information differently with compassion vs. brutal blunt honesty.
It’s important to explain to a client that receiving a reading is simply an additional guidance or awareness of information. But just like you wouldn’t base a job change on one persons opinion, you should not make life choices solely upon a reading, or even several readings. That is not taking control of your own life. Bluntly put, it’s a cop out. A client who tries putting the responsibility of their choices on the shoulders of someone else will be setting that person up to fail. That is not fair to them or to the client’s spiritual purpose here on earth. And this is important for psychics to understand as well. When a client says “which option do I take”, don’t feel you have to answer that question. You’re not the one who is running their life. You can easily put the choice back in the hands of the client and telling them, they must make that decision.
The alternative for both sides is gaining karmic debt. As the reader, you’re karmic burden is greater. If you give the wrong information to an individual and that person makes decisions based on your information, than you have interfered with their path in this life. Big no no. However, if you’re the client and you make choices solely based on a reading, then you too are gaining some karmic debt. By not taking responsibility for your own life and your own choices. Some people even phrase this as “Giving up your power”. I won’t get into the issues of the word “power”, but the concept is correct.
Accountability and Responsibility
As an intuitive expert you have more responsibilities than the disclosure of your experience and the discernment of information. Your responsibilities in running your practice are also yours to bear. How you deal with issues, how you manage information and how you ensure your reputation are all things to keep in mind. Psychic practices are more often than not, maintained by word of mouth. Your reputation is the most valuable commodity in that endeavor.
Ensuring your clients leave your sessions feeling empowered and uplifted is a key component to your reputation. If the readings provided by an expert are primarily negative and depressing, then I’d question their abilities and the sources of energy they’re tapping into. A psychic can just as easily tap into earth bound entities and negative energy if they have not learned how to properly clear, cleanse and protect their intuitive working space. But when these practices are adhered to, the information received comes from a higher level of spirit and the positive nature of that information will reflect that.
Knowing how to deal with clients is another responsibility for ensuring you maintain a good reputation in the community. This can range from how often you allow (yes allow) a client to receive a reading, to how you handle compliments and accept accolades . And you will face each extreme of these situations and everything in between.
Accepting accolades is the easiest thing to address. As an intuitive expert you know the information you’re providing is not from you, but from spirit. So why would you take all the credit? Giving credit where it’s due is the first step to maintaining a humble approach to your practice. Yes you maybe a good psychic, but remind people that the information comes from spirit and the thanks really belongs there. You can smile and allow your confidence to be strengthened. Feedback is always a good thing for helping an intuitive build trust in their own ability and develop their confidence. But when you allow that confidence to overshadow the process, you can easily fall over the edge to arrogance which will be detrimental to your practice.
Handling the troublesome client can be easily managed as well if you simply learn to say ‘No’. Yes, learn to say ‘No’. Anyone who wants a reading every week or every other week or in some cases every month, is becoming too dependent on you to take responsibility for their own life! While a weekly reading maybe beneficial for some clients, for others it can become a crutch and even an expert has to learn to say there’s nothing you can gain from another reading so soon after the last one.
You cannot learn lessons for your clients. If a client continually asks you for the same answers, over and over, then the information you provide may need to be altered. This is a lesson in Discernment again. The information you provided once may have been compassionate and gentle. But if the client refuses to listen and faces the same pattern over and over, then how you deliver the same message may also need to change. You can’t learn the lesson for them, so there’s no need to become frustrated and allow that energy to interfere with your counsel. But you can alter the way you deliver the information. In those cases being a little more blunt may be all that’s needed. Or delivering some brutal honesty is what’s called for.
Those clients who become angry about the information you have given them, are the same individuals who often don’t want to take responsibility for their actions. Don’t take it personally, they would be angry at you or anyone who gave them information they didn’t like. If they become angry with you because they acted upon your counsel and things didn’t turn out the way you had implied or said; then you may have to face the accuracy of the information you provide. There are still lessons on both sides of the fence in these situations however. Both sides of the counseling table has a responsibility and accountability to the information shared. It maybe different levels or different types of accountability, but it’s still a shared relationship. Treat it as such.
It’s important for all intuitive experts to remember that they are a tool for the Divine to empower others to achieve their highest potential. Nothing more, nothing less. If you have accepted this path of a spiritual expert than you want to help others and be in service to your Divine path. Be true to that mission, be honest with yourself and your clients. Accept the reverence, responsibilities and accountabilities of your role and you will achieve the mission you have set out to accomplish.
