Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Precepts

Reiki is a Japanese word translated as “Universal Life Energy” by Hawayo Takata.
She brought the possibility of a relationship with this energy to us through Usui Shiki Ryoho, a healing system founded by Mikao Usui in the early part of the 1900’s. In 1973 Hawayo Takata, a Hawaiian woman of Japanese decent, was the only Reiki Master of the Usui Shiki Ryoho system in the world and was considered to be its Grand Master. She was also the first person to bring Usui Reiki to the United States after becoming a Master in 1938, teaching the system at the University of Hawaii.

Takata trained 21 Reiki Masters before her death in 1980. One of those Masters was Rev. Beth Gray, who was my first Reiki teacher for Reiki I and II. I have been a practicing Reiki Healer since 1989. I became a Reiki Master Channel in 1996.

Because of the evolution of Reiki around the world, some good and some not so good, the Principles given to all Reiki students has evolved and changed over time. Some call the Principles a Motto. A Motto is a short sentence or phrase chosen as encapsulating the beliefs or ideals guiding an individual. Where as a Principle is a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning. For the traditional Usui Reiki Channel, the Principles are a guiding force in our every day life, it is a fundamental truth within the Reiki healing system. So I’m not real fond of calling the Principles, a “motto”. Continue reading

Planning and Preparation For The Solstice

Create A Happy Solstice Celebration

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we celebrate the Summer Solstice on June 21st or 22nd. The Summer Solstice rings in the waning year and begins the slow good-bye of the sun as the days become shorter and the darkness returns to the land.

Many have started planning for their celebration and gatherings. If you’re preparing your list and getting ready with your shopping, you might want to incorporate one of my most favorite rituals for this holiday. Because the Summer Solstice is also the Time for Faeries. And I love to include a ritual we call Walnuts For Wishes: A Recipe and Ritual for the Fae.

This ritual requires a few items you may not have laying around your home or in your ritual cabinet. So if you want to add a few things to your list for your own implementation or a variation of this ritual, now might be a good time to start planning it.

You can learn more about the Summer Solstice through these articles here on Reflections:

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The Devil – Inverted

The Devil - Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You can’t settle down and establish a good root system when you’re ignoring the details. Listen to your gut feelings, they’re trying to keep you out of harms way. Don’t settle for less than you deserve and don’t let your judgement become clouded by the negativity of others. Sometimes no news is good news. So don’t go looking for trouble. Especially when there’s none to be found. You could start something you can’t or don’t want to finish.

Additional Insight:

Be patient and allow the light to shine on your day to heal the old wounds. What’s hidden doesn’t always mean something is on its way to bite you in the behind. It could be hidden because it’s not ready to manifest into the present moment. You may not be ready right now for what’s coming. So let it go with the flow and listen to your intuition and higher consciousness. You are being guided by spirit to the next chapter of your life. Trust that Divine energy knows what’s best for you and relax.

The Tarot

Wizards Tarot by John J. Blumen - The High Priestess

Wizards Tarot by John J. Blumen

The Messengers Of The Divine

They are called the messengers of the Divine, the window to Universal Law and the sacred symbols of the higher consciousness. Whatever their auspicious synonym, the Tarot has been mentioned in ancient texts for 35,000 years. One such text, from the Hermetic Kaballah, tells of 108 stone tablets that lay beneath the ancient pyramids at Giza. 78 of these tablets are called the Exoteric Tarot, the remaining 30 are the ‘ Esoteric Tarot. This legend goes on to say, that one day these tablets will be uncovered and will explain the Universal Law and the soul’s path through the cycle of rebirth.

In 1909, Arthur Edward Waite encouraged Pamela Colman Smith to produce a tarot deck with appeal to the world of art that would have significance behind the symbols, and thus make the deck more important than tarot packs previously used for centuries. The result was the unique Rider-Waite Tarot deck, initially published in 1910. It has endured as the world’s most popular 78-card tarot deck.

The innovative cards, including the 56 Minor Arcana, depict full scenes with figures and symbols. Pamela Smith’s ability to capture the subtleties of emotion and experience, has made the Rider-Waite Tarot the basis for the designs of many 20th Century packs.

Modern Tarot decks typically contain 78 cards which are divided into two sections. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Seven of Cups – Inverted

Seven of Cups - Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Regardless of what you might think, you’re not staying stagnate  or stuck in the mud. You’re putting down roots and creating a stable place to grow. It may not seem like it right now, but there’s much going on beneath the surface and you are being supported by love. Things are moving forward, right as they should and need to be. Trust your instincts and listen to your inner voice. You don’t need a crystal ball to tell you what’s really going on. You’re safe and surrounded by success.

Additional Insight:

Stop looking into the outside world to find a glimpse of hope or a message from the future. It’s not going to be there. Because you already know where you need to be. Allow the Divine Universe to create what you need and take you there. Without fear or worry. But with anticipation and excitement. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Two of Pentacles

Two of Penacles

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Keep the faith and don’t give up hope. What you need will come in time to fill your basket and leave some to spare.  At the most two days will be needed to double the prize. Believe in miracles and you make room for them to occur. Let go and let the Divine carry the burden and fill the need.

Additional Insight:

When you’ve done all you can do, it’s time to turn the burden over to a higher source. Stop worrying because you’re only pulling more of the same hardship into your life. Believe in miracles and let go of the negative thinking. Things will be taken care of, when you have reached the end of the road.

Have faith that you’re being taken to the place and time where your skills are needed the most. If that means letting go of the old to make room for the new, then have faith it’s the best thing that can happen for you. Perhaps the ultimate dream can’t be achieved until you make the change and move onto a new path or location. Go with the flow and welcome the abundance that’s waiting for you. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: Three of Wands – Inverted

Three Of Wands - Inverted

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

Put your feet up and rest for a little bit. You have a story to share, a tale that’s worth hearing and a young person who needs to listen to it. Don’t assume others won’t be interested in what you have to say. You’ve been through a lot in your life and the lessons learned can help someone else avoid making the same mistakes you did.

Additional Insight:

Don’t be afraid to share a memory. More importantly don’t remain silent when others are trying to use words to manipulate a situation and underhandedly alter the course others might take in their life. Be the leader that speaks up for the facts and the whole story, not just a piece of it, or a spin that alters the truth.

Simply because someone says something over and over again, doesn’t mean it’s true or factual. You can’t change history to support an argument that has no basis in fact. And you can’t remain silent when those who think they’re charismatic use manipulative labels to influence your thinking. It’s a day to think for yourself and research the truth. Google is a click away and you could be very surprised when you discover what really happened in that story being told over and over again. Continue reading

Today’s Tarot Meditation Drawing: The World

The World

Mystic Faery Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft

You can rule your world today with ease. So stop looking at tasks as burdens. They’re simply part of life. Don’t look at your problems as a giant weight you’re carrying on your shoulders and you’ll get through the day on top of the world! You’ve got a lot of help to get you there. Be courteous and gracious to each one who lends a hand.

Additional Insight:

There’s a lot going on today, so watch where you’re going and be careful traversing the road in front of you. You might need to weave in and out to get by the obstacles, but that’s ok. You’re good at this, so keep your confidence in the forefront of you mind. The problems of the past have been healed and it’s time to let them go and move on to greater success. You’ve got this. Be Nice – Out Loud

Brown Bear and Grey Wolf Shae Rare Friendship

Brown Bear and Grey Wolf Share A Rare Friendship

Being Kind In Action

You never know what someone else is going through. So say something nice and give them a boost in their day.

A couple of years ago I watched a 60 Minute episode with Lesley Stahl sharing a story about how humans remember things. She was interviewing a professor who was researching memory and in particular how we remember. His study revealed that we more easily remember the negative things that are said to us, whither or not they’re even true. To prove his point he told Lesley she was a terrible reporter. He paused and then said, “that comment isn’t true, you’re great at what you do. But you’re not going to remember I said that. You’ll remember the negative fabrication.” Continue reading

eMail: Manifesting Spirits and Thoughts Into Physical Reality

The Magik of Animal Guides

The Magik of Spirit

I Love Interesting Questions!

Last week I shared an email I had received from someone who wasn’t so nice, and how I responded to their message. I’d like to take the opportunity to share a fabulously interesting email I received this week and perhaps show a little contrast.

I love getting email, I love answering questions from people on all levels of understanding and experience. People always apologize for asking basic questions, or being long-winded or for emailing in general. It’s really not necessary to apologize. If I didn’t want email I shouldn’t have put up a contact page and provided a mechanism to receive correspondence. So let’s face it, if I didn’t want to answer questions, I picked a pretty poor profession to avoid it!

I get a lot of email of various kinds and from all over the world. It may take me a few days to a few months to get through them all, but I do answer all of them. Receiving email comes and goes in waves. There are many more messages from fall to spring, especially between Samhain and Yule. And not so many in the summer between June and September. Now that makes sense here in the States. But our summer is the winter for the southern hemisphere and the pattern seems to follow along in the same way. That’s always confused me. But ok.

Now some emails I receive are more interesting than others of course. I love the questions that cause me to really sit back and think how I feel about the topic, or cause me to research a little before I can answer. It’s important to remember that most people share a belief, but that we often call things by different labels. So you might need to research a term or a phrase to discover if this question’s concept is something totally new to you, or is it a topic you’re familiar with that has been given a different name. Continue reading
