Make sure the little things know they have value and that finances aren’t the only measure of worth. Sometimes a hug has more value than any gift card can ever buy.

Many people work so hard making sure their holiday season is perfect, that they forget what the holiday season is all about. Start this season out on the right foot and make it more about love and kindness; not the number or size of presents under the tree. Set the tone up front and make this one more meaningful and different from the very beginning.

Watch your dimes and quarters; make sure you remain within your budget. But also remember that the commercialization of this time of year isn’t what this season is all about. And you’re the one who will control that perspective in your household.

Not all families are out of the financial crisis of the Great Recession. People are still fighting tooth and nail to stay afloat or to keep from going under all together. That extra bit of cash you have might do more good if it’s offered to a local food bank, or buy a holiday dinner and take it to your local public school.
