Ideas come from all corners. Don’t let the “status” of someone’s position negate their contribution to the team. Everyone has something to learn. Sometimes those without all the prestige have a better understanding of a subject, through experience. Listen to them. They know what they’re talking about.
There’s a difference between book smart and life smart. Neither one is better, or worse than the other. Book smart without experience fails to recognize all the elements of a situation. Which often leads to unintended consequences.
Life smart is book smart learned the hard way. Through the trial and error of action. And it’s a fallacy to assume that life smart has never cracked a book. It’s only through action that we implement the knowledge we’ve obtained and develop wisdom.
Don’t be the one who’s short-sighted or too arrogant to notice the wisdom in others. A college degree and a big fancy corner office doesn’t always equal intelligence. Be open to the ideas and thoughts of others. They may actually know what they’re talking about. And it’s not going to kill you to listen. You might even ask a question or two and learn something.
